So I have searched to no avail. I would like to know the HP range of our stock 95 GST transmissions. I will have Phantom Grip LSD, ACT 2900 with street disk, and a Fidanza aluminum flywheel. Thanks for the help!

Well, I've destroyed a FWD tranny at 300 hp at launch and I've built my AWD on a stock tranny to touching 350hp and its alright so it depends honestly on how you drive it. If you dont piss on it then it will last.

In THEORY, the FWD's are easier on the driveline, as wheel slip helps absorb the shock loads that the AWD's experience. So it should be able to hold some decent power

However, it's a catch-22... as wheel slip slows you down. ;) So if you switch over to slicks, that shock comes back.

I'd think your 350ish goal would be ok..

If your shooting for 500 your stocker still may due, you may be limited at how quickly you can shift it at the track but as long as you drive it with some sense it should hold up. I would say though that for peace of mind upgrade it now and be done with it LOL.

I just brok my 1g GST tranny since I love to burn my tires through 2nd gear up to 70mph so I have to say it's pretty hard not to burn them especially if you had 350hp. You could drive it until you break it and worry about it later, sort of what I did. A side note is that if you plan on making this much power are you using a 7bolt motor or a 6bolt swap? If you don't have a 6bolt I would be very very carefull about adding more power since it will only be a matter of time before you crankwalk your engine.

The crankwalk comment was unnecessary and untrue. If you want to see a user making a lot of power on a 7 bolt, look up twicks69. Very few engines in the grand scheme of things have crankwalked.

Are you for real?

If it's untrue then why is everyone swaping 6bolts into their 2g's then? I'm sticking by what I said about crankwalk. How many 6bolts have ever crankwalked some but it is rare? How many 7bolts have crank walked, probably more then anyone cares to count. And yes rEclipserGST, I am for real. Sorry if you don't agree because you love your 2g so much but like I already said, why does every person have a 2g with a 6 bolt in it then?

Enough with this because it's besides the point, give your tranny hell and see what happens. They are not that hard to take out and replace so you might as well save yourself some time and keep using it until something breaks or your clutch starts slipping.

And seriously, did someone put my rep on thin ice because of the post I made earlier? Thats a joke because I've helped plenty of people in this forum.

How many 7-bolts have you owned that actually walked the crank?

Way to bring up something that only effects a tiny population of 2G DSM owners and run this entire tech thread into the ditch.

GTFO!

You say why people do 6 bolt swaps?
Because people listen to morons like you.

I'm fairly sure A LOT of us still run high hp 7bolts kiddo... Enough of your hear-say thanks.

OP, 500 is a lot on any stock drive-train, as long as you have money set aside for some upgrades after she breaks you'll be fine.

Yes I do have money and plans to upgrade, but I was more curious as to how much abuse our transmissions could handle before being scattered underneath us at the tree! XD I have already killed two sets of stock axles from my wheel hop at only 250-ish horsepower. I have search for upgraded axles, but since I am new to the high horsepower scene, I have no idea where to start and think it would be best to have it posted in a thread so others could also find it!

As for the crank walk comments. I am not a believer in the hype of walking a 7bolt. Yes it happens, but not to every 7bolt known to man. You would be better off telling people to get the revised 97-99 (split thrust bearing). At least that way you wont get flamed so much, and if someone decided to listen, It would save them the hassle of doing to swap and posting a billion more already answered 6bolt swap questions on the forum. I am doing a full 99 conversion, which includes the motor, 1/4 windows, home link, and full black interior, as well as the obvious exterior. So I think I am good on the "crank walk" issue. I do appreciate you trying to help, but we learned a long time ago that crank walk was a hit and miss and not just a 7bolt thing.

WEll, if you avoid wheel hopping on the launch they will last pretty decently at a 350hp level. When i started aproaching and getting into the 400+ range that's when my 3rd gear just let go all the sudden when i was leaving the thai food take out spot and doing a mild 3rd gear pull. I layed into it at like 2500 RPM, the 57 trim spooled at about 4200 to 27psi and before i hit 5200 RPM it was like the car was in neautral.. Point being the trannies are killed more by torque than HP, and more than both of those is abuse, staying in the throttle while it's wheel hopping will kill them fast (the diff explodes), but other than that the gears that went out of mine had done a good long time 100+k miles before they let go at the ~400hp mark
