stock fuel tank capacity

so just read the thread about a fuel cell for a 2g and they were saying it was a 10 gallon tank but here's my question what is the stock tank's capacity supposed to be mine seems to be 12-13 but I keep hearing 16-17 which is right and could my fuel gauge be way off

According to the service manual, the tank is 16.9 gallons.

I think whatI'm going to do is fill a can with some gas run my car empty *puttering empty* then fill it with the can till I'm a t a gas station and fill up and see because I never get more than 12 gallons down before the low gas light arrives

If that's right though that the gauge is horribley incorrect what's a good idea for a fix or where could I go to buy a good quality and accurate one

The only way you're going to get an accurate fuel gauge is to get a fuel cell that's perfectly squared off, a sender that is linear, and a gauge that is linear. Good luck. The shape of stock tanks is partly why it isn't linear, and the sender. The sender is linear for the angle it's at, but the angle that the float is varies because it is rotating, and the gas is going up or down, straight. Kind of like a sine wave.

Se im having the same problem, I was on E with the light on the other day and filled up and only got 12.5 gallons down it. My other problem is that im only seeing about 230 to 250 miles on a tank of gas. I know if i stay off the throttle i would get way better gas mileage but these cars are to much fun.
