What is the size of the gas tank in my 90 awd(16 gallons???)I dont have the owners manul and the haynes manual does not have this listed! Please help im trying to do the ratio for some octane booster and im getting pissed that this information is hard for me to find!!!

ALL DSMs have the same 16-gallon capacity. Different sources will fudge .1 gallon or so, and it's yet to be determined what the useable capacity is.

Been nagging at me for a while. What is the fuel capacity for the stock tank on a 1G (90) GSX? The whitesheets say 16 gallons, the GS-T I owned had a 16 gallon tank... but the GSX, even run to the nerve-wracking point of needle-touching-bottom-line with the idiot light on, only ever fills between 11.5-12.2 gallons.

The fuel gauge seems to be perfect... each quarter tank mark seems to hit at 3-gallon intervals, from half and quarter tank fills. If not for reading the whitesheets and owner's manual, I'd assume it only had a 12-gallon tank. Anyone know for-certain, or am I going to have to pull my tank and check if I have four gallons' worth of buildup and crap clogging things up?

I'm pretty sure it's 15.9 gallons. I've filled up over 14 before after running on E for a LOOOOOOONG time. There is usually quite a bit of 'cush' in the gauge.

Yeah i have a 90 Tsi AWD also and i've wondered the same thing. Mine says 15.9 gallons but i can only fill up to 11-12 at the most. I'm thinkin that maybe there is like 3-4 gallons after the light comes on but that seems like a lot. I've never taken chance with it and let it run ALL the way out, so i'm thinkin it does have quite a bit of "cush" in it LOL..let me know if you figure out for sure

Guess it's time to put a gas can in the car and run it dry, find out. I know the idiot light is supposed to come on when you have 2 gallons left, and usually it does... but the gauge (calibrated for a 12 gallon tank) reflects that... comes on when the gauge reads about 1/8.

Would be really good to know, as with the current 12-gallon range, I can get about 300 miles on the freeway. Down side is, most gas stations at the 200-300 mark on major interstates jack the price way up... but if you manage to hold out for another 50 miles or so, the prices go back to sane levels.

I have a 92 AWD and have put over 14 gallons in mine a few times also. Needle was below E.

LOL yeah, I just ran out yesterday. I was trying to see how many miles I could squeeze out. It was 437. My gas guage and low gas light are horribly inaccurate. I can go almost another 100 miles after my gauge hits E.

Hey guys, I recently started getting extremely good mpg after i got timing right and a bigger turbo to keep me out of boost more. But I've had this problem where, needle is buried at empty, light's been on for days, and when I go to fill up it'll only take 13 gallons.
Yesterday I drove her around until she stalled, got 311 miles to my last tank of gas, which filled up to 13 gallons.

What's going on here? Car stalls, which means I have no gas, both needle and light read like no gas at all... I go to fill up, it'll only take 13 gallons and everything is back to normal, needle goes to full. Any ideas what's happening to my other 4 gallons?

I have the charcoal canister line just hanging there if that makes any difference.

does a GSX hold more gas than the other models? i thought we only had 15ish gallon tanks. still doesn't explain the other 2 gallons even if i'm right...so someone else set this straight.

Well on most spec sites and on this forum, the GSX has a pretty big tank.
Fuel Tank Capacity: 16.90 gal.
EPA Mileage Estimates: (City/Highway)
Automatic: 20 mpg / 30 mpg
Manual: 22 mpg / 32 mpg
Range in Miles: (City/Highway)
Automatic: 338 mi. / 507 mi.
Manual: 372 mi. / 541 mi.

yea that's pretty strange....the only thing i might add would be i know the GSX sorta have 2 gas tanks..

by that i mean there's a hump for the transaxel going to the back...and once you get below half a tank it splits into 2 tanks...each with it's own sender unit...maybe one of them is messed up....if you have a 17 gallon take...half is 8.5...here it splits into 2 tanks...roughly 4.25 gallons each....that could explain it.

but then again i have no idea, that's just a suggestion.

My old gst used to hold around 17 gal until i accidently jacked my car up by the gas tank and dented it in, then it only held around 13.. You didnt do something stupid like me by any chance? LOL..

i know its a long shot

Correct, i've read through this article explaining the faulty gauge and whatnot, but faulty as it maybe, that doesn't explain the 4 gallon mass I'm missing in my tank.

Naw, LOL, good thinking though.

I drove about 20 miles with the gas light on once. The manual says there is approximately 2 gallons left when the gas light comes on. I get about 21 mpg. So you figure that I had about 1 gallon left in it. I was able to fill it up to 13.125 gallons. What does all of this equal? About a 14 gallon tank, I believe. Granted this is on the 2g AWD. The FWD is supposed to be 16.

:dsm:

The fuel capacity for a fwd is 15.9 according to alldata, however the light is a reminder that it is time to refuel due to the simple fact that if you continue to drive you have the risk of burning up your pump. Once my light comes on, I can drive anywhere from 25-50 miles depending on if I boost it.
