Fuel Capacity [Merged 11-6] gas tank size gallons

What is the size of the gas tank in my 90 awd(16 gallons???)I dont have the owners manul and the haynes manual does not have this listed! Please help im trying to do the ratio for some octane booster and im getting pissed that this information is hard for me to find!!!


ALL DSMs have the same 16-gallon capacity. Different sources will fudge .1 gallon or so, and it's yet to be determined what the useable capacity is.

For the longest time my gas light would come on when my gauge read about 1/8 of a tank. I always figured...time to fill up. I thought that was common sense. Then, when I started at a new college this year I had to drive about four hours a way. I drove the distance with some pit stops and a lot of driving around the town my gas light came on as always. I drove around the town to try and find a gas station that sold Premium(atleast 91 octane) gas. After about half an hour of driving around town and not finding any gas, I decided I would drive to the next town, which is 25 miles. I made the trip, filled up and I fit 15.4 gallons into the tank. I don't think it is a typo in the manual as much as it is the gas gauges in DSM's, or at least mine and a couple of my buddies, read a little conservatively, that's fine with me though, saves me from being stranded on the side of the road.

i can only get a bout 12.6 gal. or so when i fill up, that is usualy the average for me.

You guys aren't getting the message. The tank holds 16 gallons. FWD and AWD. The low fuel float is off. It goes on when you have roughly 4.5 gallons left. The low fuel light is off. Run it completely bone dry and then fill her up see what you get.

So yesterday my low fuel light started to blink on and off with cornering. So since gas is a lttle low around here, due to hurricanes, I fill up. 14 gals.

the manual says 16 gallons but everytime i fill it up i only get about 12......also, my fuel warning light repeatedly flashes on and off when its close to empty......does that mean i need gas right away or is it just a warning until the light stays on permanently meaning i need gas asap?

Well your tank isnt going to be completly DRY when your gauge says empty. Usually manufactures will have a resurve of maybe up to 5 gallons so you dont run out of gas finding a gas station or you are out in the middle of no were. You would see a lot of dead cars on the side of the road if the car stoped when the gauge hit E

Ok, so what the hell is goin on here? i run my car down to pretty much empty and go to fill up and it says the gas tank is full and it says i only put 11 gallons in? plus i'm getting TERRIBLE gas mileage !? what the hell anybody else having this problem i'm getting about 110 miles to a "full" tank...don't know doesn't a 1991 eclipse gsx automatic have a 16 gal tank? thats what i read?!

That's pretty damn good - but you also dont' have AWD.

As for the gas tank - its a 16 gallon tank, techincally - but I've only put at MOST 14.5 gallons in - and I had to be running it pretty damn near fumes for that. It's just the way the tank is designed that it won't actually use all 16 gallons.

Your mileage though - thats no good at all. You should do a tuneup - check out your o2 sensor, spark plugs, wires, clean your air filter - see how that does. I'd been getting pretty crappy mileage, about 13mpg around town - but just put in new plugs and cleaned out my filter, did my o2 sensor about 6 months ago - and am now getting 19/25 mileage - I'm damn impressed with it.

well shit i'd be happy with that, got new plugs wires, o2 reading is good (i'll replace anyways)but i do have alot of mods done...that i understand will eat my gas but i mean this is way to low of numbers! i have 680 injectors and a walbro 255lph fuel pump and evoIII 16g with supporting mods...so i know it will be low but anything elsei can check?

Hrm - 680cc injectors will definitely allow you to chew through fuel more - maybe you just need tuning?

It could be the same problem with a lot of the 2gs. The fuel level gauge is just plain innaccurate. If I fill it up on empty..I can get 10 gallons in it...If I continue to drive another 100 miles or so I can get about 4 more gallons in it. While this is typically a 2g problem it could just as easily apply to any vechicle. I get about 260 - 270 to the tank venting and a bad 2nd 02 sensor. The most I have filled my tank up was 12 gallons and that was a rare day. The fuel gauges on 2nd gens are WAY off for me, if I fill my tank up the gauge goes to the top, and I'll go about 170 miles on it and it will show half tank, then drive another 15 miles and I'm down to a 1/4 tank already.

110 is way too low in gas effeciency, I would get the car looked over. Check your O2 Sensors SOMETIMES the ECU will fail to pick it up and not give you a Check Engine Light.

i'll check that, o2 sensors are what about 80 bucks...thats a lot of money for a guess....i mean theres got to be something wrong here...my afc is tuned pretty damn well, and we cut alot of the fuel already any other options?

Maybe your fuel gauge is messed up.

A friend of mine had a 96 GS, (I know you said 91, but *shrug*) and he had a problem with his gauge. It would give him false readings all the time.

its says that my car has a 16.9 gallon tank , but when my low fuel light comes on , and i fill up i only put in about 12-13 gallons. how could this be??? help please????
