Alright, as some of you guys know I've been breaking in my new transmission, and would like you guy's opinion.
1. Who here has aftermarket cable bushings
2. Who here has aftermarket shifter base bushings
3. Who here has the shep/other aftermarket cable bracket spacers?
What were the effects of installing them? Did you like them ? Dislike them?
At first I just had the shifter base bushings, didn't notice too much difference, then I installed the cable bushings, and the trans seemed notchier (not sure if that's what were going for here or not)
Then I installed the shep cable bracket spacers, holy hell, 1st and 2nd were incredibly notchy, to the point where it feels like its grinding to get in gear, I'm under the assumption that you cant make the transmission actually grind with just bushings, but if I'm wrong fill me in! I ended up removing them and using stock ones because I hated how they made the car feel.
I ended up having to swap to a 90 shifter base, and since the base bushings are different from 91+ I went back to stock bushings, now the car only had the cable end bushings, and stock everything else, car shifted great, felt great.
I ordered 90 shifter base bushings and decided to put those in, low and behold, super notchy to the point where I don't like the sound the transmission makes when I shift gears.
I guess what I"m asking is the notchy feel what were supposed to be shooting for and I'm just a ####y? Or what, because I literally feel like I may be doing damage to the transmission, it's certainly not synchro grinding because that's pretty easy to identify. Maybe if some local guys wanna come take my car for a ride and see what they think I'd appreciate it, there's just way too much work/money tied up in this transmission and I'd rather be over cautious, than not cautious enough!
Thanks guys!
