1G steering rack and knuckle alternative

Due to the country I live in, it is impossible to find the Talon parts, but there are too many fwd Galant parts, so what are the Galant parts that are compatible with the parts of the Talon? Especially knuckles?

The Galant GVR4 knuckles would be the desirable knuckles if you want to mount Brembo four piston brake calipers to a second generation Eclipse or Talon, the regular Galant fwd knuckles I would assume would be the same as a stock second generation Eclipse or Talon, as far as the engine and drive line I would also assume that if the Galant has the 4g63 in it, it would be the same as the 4g63 in the Eclipse or Talon unless its a non turbo 4g63 Galant, in which case it would be the same as the first generation non turbo Eclipse or Talon, still useable as far as the basic engine but you would want to upgrade the pistons to turbo it.

Actually I forgot to say my Talon model it's 1990 AWD. I read it somewhere FWD Galant knuckles match with 90 series maybe I am wrong or steering

Hello, there are no Talon parts in my country, but many Mitsubishi parts are available in my country. I ask you, are there parts from equivalent cars for both the knuckle and the steering rack for the 1990 AWD? For example, like galant..

What kind of Galants are available to you there? Based on the replacement parts compatibility charts, the 91-92 AWD Galant VR-4 steering rack is the same as the AWD DSM steering rack. The FWD Galant rack is a different part number. If you happen to come across any of the more rare AWD non-turbo Galants 90-92, be aware that it has to be an automatic AWD (even more rare) for the rack to work. The non-turbo manual AWD racks were the same as the FWD Galant racks.
(SEE HERE). RockAuto does international shipping and they have control arms available too if needed.

That said, just comparing numbers posted on the replacements, the AWD racks are 1/4” longer than the FWD racks, the steering column input shafts are different sizes, and the AWD rack is 1/2 turn less travel from one side to the other (lock to lock).

For the knuckles, they’re the same across the board (Galants, AWD, FWD, etc, see pic). ABS knuckles used to be a different part number than non-ABS knuckles, but the database now says the non-ABS version was replaced by the ABS version. I’m unsure if there was a difference as I have never owned a Galant nor a DSM with ABS, so beware. Someone else on here may know more in that regard. The knuckles are not offered new anywhere that I know of, so sourcing it from a junkyard is your best bet.

Thanks but we have only 1.6 FWD version I saw only 2 AWD's galant in Turkey.. Shipping option is not for me..Really I am sick and tired for paying custome and postage fee that s why I am trying to find in here. I thought I can match with other mitsu's but I need to fix it..

Honestly, if it were me, and I was hard up for a steering rack and didn’t have much funds, I’d try to figure out a way to make a FWD rack work. Extend the tie rod ends by 1/8” on each side (or as properly aligned), and swap the steering column sprocket or something of the sort. I’m not condoning this behavior as a widespread action. Anything one does for themselves is at their own risk. But I would at least experiment and see if it’s possible. I have never had to swap a steering rack in any of my Mitsu/DSM vehicles myself, which makes it all the more interesting.

You don’t hear of such talk that much because a lot times it’s less headache to just buy a part and swap it out.

I remember doing my auto to manual swap in my Galant GS and having to make use of some creative engineering on some things like the wiring harness selector switch and the firewall holes for the clutch master cylinder.

You should take a close look at the knuckles on those junk cars. They may be just what you’re looking for.

But, I want to make sure, though, that you mean knuckles as in the metal piece that contains the wheel bearing and the connections to the strut and control arm ball joint. Also, if you’ve looked at them yourself, or if you’re going off the advice of someone else like a shop. Not trying to insult your intelligence by any means. Just making sure.

I’ve never heard of knuckes “going bad” because they’re very solid cast metal. Usually people bend their control arms or struts first, since the metal is much thinner.

thanks for tips yes I was talking about the same picture which is shown...i guess my car has damaged from left side by previous owner..When my car enters a ditch, the steering wheel turns left and right. Additionally, my vehicle slides left and right depending on the bumps on the road. I am having difficulty controlling my vehicle. Please see my video recording..

This is excellent info, especially because the Mitsu parts database says they’re interchangeable (i.e. all models/trims are listed for both the FWD part number and the AWD part number).

Please can you describe detailed because no one understand this tip in Turkey..I really hate this steering control.. I can not hold the car on the road and it makes mi crazy it s like sliding on the road..what about bushing? Front K member bushings? Does it make this issue?

Us dsm dealer software you can cross reference by chassis type. I assume euro and jdm versions can do this also. At least you would be dealing with oem instead of rockauto. You need ASA or CAPS software.

I wouldn't trust any website. Trust ASA. It will have part supercesion numbers also and TSBs etc.
What is your question in this last post? Why don't you just lookup the part for the chassis you have then use ASA to figure out what chassis might have that (if any).
