hi. i got hit in a car accident back in march 2004 by a honda civic. My right front wheel got bent, as well as the rack and pinion assembly.

how tough is it to change the whole rack and pinion assembly?
i was wondering because the guys insurance company is going to be paying me
and i plan on doing all of the repairs myself......

what things should i look out for when buying a rack and pinion assembly for my car?

here are some pictures of the damage....

well first off im new to the dsm community but im pretty sure u cant tow a awd drive car with just 2 wheels on the ground...that right there probably hurt u some to man :thumbdown

actually, that picture was of just the front of the car. the back of the car was put on dollies. the car was completely off the ground. the front was on the tow truck, the back was on dollies.

anyone have an answer for me then?..........come on people........i know someone on here has answer for me.....dont be shy.....

and i thought fellow dsm'erz on this board were knowledgeable......i guess not thus far.........i was kinda hoping someone would atleast point me in the right direction somehow.........so someone atleast give me some advice or pointers before i tackle this job myself.

you know bumping can get you in trouble i have never done it on a dsm i did one on a chevy 1500 that was smashed from the front if the body is str8 it is eazybut your is not might have peoblems ( nothing a hammer cant fix) get more pixs so we can help get day pixs

Its not really that bad, 2-3 hour job at the most, unless you run into something that makes it more difficult(mine had a broken bolt on the big C clamp that holds the rack to the column... major PITA)
Dont forget an alignment after your done ;)
