Hey

I'm not a newbie to dsms but this is a fairly easy to answer question so I figured this would be the best place to post.

I'm going to be removing my powersteering lines (leaving the rack for now  ) and the pump as well. My one question is what is the best way to get ALL or as much as possible of the power steering fluid out of the rack and pinion? I want to do this because my friend said the difference between having the fluid in there and not in there would be the difference between having it be crappy in parking lots and TERRIBLE in parking lots. So like I said I would just like to hear everyones experiences with it.

So far I've figured moving it from lock to lock on the steering wheel would get a decent amount of the fluid out but like I said I'm looking to get as much possible out. I was thinking about about disconnecting one of the lines on the rack and running the car until no more fluid came out of the line but it seems like that wouldn't really help me get any out of the rack because as soon as the resivour is empty that the pump wouldn't pump anymore and since the rack is lower in the car that it would just cause the pump to eventually seize up and I would still have fluid in the rack.

Thanks in advance everyone.:thumb:

Take out the rack and drain it.

Or remove the return line and let the pump suck it dry. But you are right, if you do it too long you will fry the pump. Dont forget to take off the belt too when you are done since you are leaving it in.

Actually it was meant to read as I'm taking the lines and pump out. Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up doing something a little different but it worked out fine.
