canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

If you have a tune that surge may have deleted your tune. You can try disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu. As far as an 02 solenoid, I couldn't find nothing on it.

Also check this out. This Guy had a similar issue with the car starting and shutting off right away. MPI relay issue??? - DSM Forums: Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser, and Eagle Talon Forum: DSMtalk.com

Okay So I tried the push button start thing and so far i got this, a toggle switch for ACC, toggle switch for ignition and a push button for the start. It works good. but i still dont know where the fifth wire goes to.(blue wire).. need some help. It's

White wire-----12v
black/red wire-----starter
black/white wire------ignition
blue/black wire-------ACC
Blue wire------------?????????

These wires are on the igniton switch plug

It sounded like when it started and when you gassed it and let go you said it wanted to die off. Check the biss screw and open it up a bit more to keep a higher idle. Also check for Any boost leaks because that will definately cause your car not to start if there's alot of leaks or a big leak. Hope you get it fixed.

There's 2 "ON" position wires. One is constant for the ecu and necessary components, and the other one that powers the accessories cuts off while starting.

I would leave the ignition switch alone and not wire in toggle switches. It'll make the car easier to steal. All that's needed is just one wire to the starter relay with a momentary switch.

be careful with the biss. I had a crank but no start and retraced my steps to the biss turned out to far and that ceased myplugs to be fuel soaked. If you adjusted the biss, to start turn it all the way in and come out about a turn and a half to two, that will get it started then fine tune(only if you turned the biss to far out).

found the problem it was the timeing belt had a buddie check it for me he said it was good i rechecked today belt is broke morle of the story allways check yourself thanks for the help guys at least i learnd a lil about my car after all this

Thanks for taking time to help me out.it turn out that when I touch the red and black wires together it made the copper stripping that runs to pin 92 on the ecu pop.So I had to solder it together.with that happening it was maki ng my injectors spray to much fuel because pin 92 on ecu is for the sensor ground .

so i just got done building my first dsm, i put everything together, turned the key and the car started great, never drove the car just warmed it up a few times, went to start it one day and it was only firing on 2 cylinders, so i figured my number 4 and 1 coil pack went bad so i replaced just that coilpack, now when i try to start it the dam thing just back fires out the exhaust, i know 100% the motors in time, makes 160+ psi on each cylinder (272 cams) , cas is facing the right way, tryed replacing the ignition control module, it hounstly sounds like a old distributer car thats 180 out, i dont get what happed it was running great till this coil died now it wount run at all , any ideas ? no check engine light either i have dsmlink btw

Thanks for the replys guys I accually just figured it out. I swaped out coilpacks from a 1g and she fires right up I'm not sure why but I'm happy its fixed !

Alright I am in need of some some help. I cant type how much I need it right now. So I replaced my headgasket today. Everything went smooth well almost. Was a tooth off on the timming belt. But still tryied to start. So now the car will not start. It will spit and sputter all it wants but just will not catch. I have verified plug wiring. Checked plugs. Checked CAS. Everything checks out. I did redo the timing belt and it is now dead on. Compression was 120 on 1 and 2 and 130 on 3 and 4. I have rotated the cas 180 , swapped plug wires. Threw in another set of plugs. adjusted timing via my tuning software. There was one other thing I did to the car and that was rig up my knock sensor. The wire was burnt up when my car caught fire and I temp fixed it till im able to get a new sensor. The car was running this morning when I pulled into the shop to do the headgasket. The reason why I replaced it was I was seeing combustion gases in cooling system causing overheat issues. Any tips that you can throw out will be greatly appreciated. Ive tied almost everything I know to figure this out. Thanks.

I pulled the battery out before i did anything. Ill tripple check the timing belt but it was dead on after i redid it

Is the little power transistor that down on the side of the intake manifold plugged in? It's easy to forget.

I would double check everything YOU did. Like anywhere you unhooked intercooler piping, everything you unplugged, make sure you plugged your MAS back in. Things like that.

Im running sd. Everything is plugged in. Ive double and tripple checked it all. Im about to go back out and qork on her more. I cant fathom the ecu burning up from disconecting the battery.

Did you make sure that both the surface of the head and block were cleaned, flat, and dry before you put it back together?
