******UPDATE ON PAGE 2 NEED HELP ON PAGE 2 THANKS******

Hey guys before I posted that I was going to buy a 97 gsx for 4500 dollars, I got some responses, but then a mod deleted thread for some unknown reason. But anyways I just bought 97 GSX with 95000 miles, black in color, tan leather, perfect condition inside and out.

The guy who sold it knew nothing about the car having turbo or nothing, so he just sold it to me, the only problem it had was that it was leaking clutch fluid. My uncle whos a mechanic said its an easy fix. Another problem that we noticed was that when the car starts, it makes a loud squeel, my uncle said its some belt, dont remember the name, it on the right side of the engine towards the right headlight, I think it the power steering, not sure. The guy said he just replaced it, it was like 350 dollars, I saw receipt. But my uncle said that its a bit loose, they didnt adjust it right.

Anyways the car runs perfect, Im still learning how to drive stick, my old car was a 99 eclipse rs, it was automatic. Another thing I forgot was that when it hits 60mph, the car shakes a bit, I think my uncle said alternator or something, but he said its fixable and I got a real good deal on the car. What you guys think about the shaking at 60mph? And what you guys think of the car? Ill take pics tomorrow to show. :)

Ok we lifted the car today. The clutch oil leak came from the clutch container hose. Its fixed and we bled the line. Now we saw the engine oil leak, and its leaking from the oil pan bolt, we tightened it a bit more to see if that was the cause if not it going to need a new oil pan. And for the shaking at high speeds, were still trying to figure it out, he thinks its electrical because it doesnt shake where the tires are. The car like vibrates at those speeds 50-60mph then once it passes those speeds it stops vibrating. He thinks its a sensor or something, were going to put the comp to check it out.

Also here are some pics I took, I havnt washed the car though :)

Bump w/ update, car is running perfect now. 1 Problem though! This time its the first gear. Sometimes it doesnt gear in right. Yesturday when coming out of the house, I went into first gear and it didnt catch the gear, I tried it 4 more tries and it wouldnt get into first! My uncle hasnt seen the prob. But why would it be that first gear doesnt get in gear right? On the fifth try it finally worked. Does that mean the gear doesnt work sometimes or what? Thanks again.

Wasnt going to make new thread so decided to bump my old one in which the problem is with the vibration and this thread was originally about vibration.

Anyways, we looked under the car and I had 3 mechanics with me and they looked under the car and saw that 1 side of the driveshaft was loose and not tight like the other front side. I seriously have no idea what driveshaft is, but they said its important, it connects to transmission, etc. They said thats the problem, with a definite yes.

Could this be true? and where do I get this driveshaft. It was like a big pipe coming from front of car to back, and had like 2 things holding it, 1 in the front and 1 in middle/rear. It was the middle/rear 1 that was loose.

Thanks again.

I am not trying to be cruel....
Get to know your vehicle! The sad but true part of these cars (DSM) are that they require you to get to know them and their quirks. My suggestion to you is to start off simple by purchasing a Haynes or Chilton manual and looking at the diagrams or pictures. Since you have an uncle or friends that are mechanics, ask them to take you to see the problems and explain them to you.
Enroll in a basic mechanic class at your local technical college. It is worth the $400 bucks for the tuition. They will teach you the basics of cars and how they all work that can be applied to all vehicles that you will own in the future.
Consider buying the factory service manual(s) for your vehicle. Especially if you are taking it to someone to fix it that may not be familiar with DSM! I have run into mechanics here in Indiana that refuse to work on them because they say they are too difficult to work on.....LOL
Join a local DSM community. These are locals that you can bounce ideas off of in person or convince them to help you in exchange for feeding them or buying them beer. Most of these local DSM people have had their share of the same things that are happening to you.
The last point ...these are labor intensive vehicles!!!! When they work right they are the coolest. When you are fixing them they really are frustrating. The reason that you probably got such a good deal on your car is because the person that previously owned it didnt work on his own vehicle and got sick of dumping money into it. It does eventually become a point of diminishing returns.
I am on my 3rd engine because of the darn timing belt! it is a love hate relationship. I love the car and my wife hates seeing it sit in the driveway because something else is broken...LOL
I am not flaming you. Just want to help you before you start getting in over your head. Do some research and get to know your vehicle.

P.s. I have been on here for years and still consider myself a newbie

Thanks for advice, wish i had money and time for mechanics class, I would love to do that :(

Yea i know some people in DSM community just haven't got in touch with them in a while everyones busy like always LOL.

And I dont take anything personal, I like the words you said, I do have to learn more, but it doesn't come quick. I will still like to know about driveshaft thing though because I just want to fix it and get over it, but I cant find any places that sell that??

Sounds like the driveshaft thing is you carrier bearing. What exactly is loose on it? Is the bearing shot, or are the bolts loose where it connects to the body?

Its like the pipe on the bottom rear, there is something that holds that pipe, there are 2 holdings one in the front of the car and the other in the middle/rear, the rear 1 is loose, like the whole thing. He showed me by shaking the front one and it was stiff, and the rear one was loose (he was able to shake it)
