High pitched squeel sound at start up (starter not disengaging?)

I assume that a 2g starter is fine with a 6bolt (JUST finished dropping my 2.3 in, haven't even got it idling yet) ... i think mine isn't disengaging, is it possible that during the instilation i didnt have it set right when i bolted it down?

when i start the car it turns over then squeels/grinds (hard to explain the sound) for a half second and then sounds normal.. at first i thought it was belts squeeling, but i tightend them and they dont squeel any other time so i think its the starter..

sound right?

shitty thing is my car only has 26,000 miles on it, the starter shouldn't be going or even very dirty yet!


for the idling issue i can just twist in the BISS screw right?
 
There is a certain procedure for the BISS screw adjustment if I remember right you have to ground out a plug on the diagnostic port via a datalogger or such. Read the vfaq (www.vfaq.com) for the exact instructions.

Yah, it says to ground out a connector using a scan tool, wich i dont have... i dont see why this would matter since the BISS screw is just a screw that blocks off an air passage.. /shrug...

no ballance shaft here,

i'm running an SBR 2.3L shortblock stage 1(6bolt) w/my stock 2g head.

Todd right? Sorry it has been a while .... what turbo did you end up with?

I'm talking about the crank pulley, AKA harmonic balancer. When mine was on it's way out, it used to squeal only during start up, it then slowly got worse until one day it felt apart and ate up my ps belt. If you get under the car while a friend start the car, you should be able to see if the squealing is the ps belt caused by a wobbly crank pulley.

turbo money went into the cobra fund, the GSX has been downgraded to "winter beater" status for this summer.. haha

good point, i did reuse my 1g crank pully, though it was also off a (relitivly) low mile 1g (60,000 miles) but then after 12 years rubber oxidises..

the odd thing is, this exact same short block ran PERFECT not 6 months ago in my 93 talon, then sat for 4 months before i pulled it out and put it into the 99.. ahh well i'll check that tonight. thanks!
