60+ mph cooling problem

My 2g is running hot on the highway at 60+ mph. I have both fans connected but I've heard that they don't really do anything over 30 mph. This problem does NOT occur when just driving around town or sitting in traffic. It seems to only happen in fifth gear at 60 or higher. I do have a FMIC but I have also removed the AC to get more air through the radiator and it helped but did not get rid of the problem. My water pump is new and I have just gotten a cooling system flush to get rid of any debris but the problem persists.
I was thinking of running a duct from the side vent where the SMIC used to be to get more cool air to the radiator instead of the hot air comming through the FMIC. Any tips or advice would be helpful.
 
mine was just my thermostat so i replaced that and it works great LOL simple fix i just like to flip out i guess DAMN THE DSM WORLD!!! GRR hate my car

With a SMIC same applies, no restrictions. Now witha FMIC theres an airflow restriction. DSMs do not have a very large opening for air to flow to the radiator. Put something in front of it and air slows down. That and higher power, bigger turbo etc will cause more heat to be made from the engine. :nono: obviously YOU dont understand wut we are talking about here. :nono: the fans typically dont do any cooling when ## driving 30mph+, so if the fans are enough to keep the engine cool while sitting in traffic with hot exhaust pumping on the fmic and the radiator, then the fact that 60mph+ airflow (which would be more than at the fans max 30mph) would OBVIOUSLY cool the engine MORE than it would with the fans on. :thumb:

heres a little fun fact (tarantula pay attention please ;) ): this over heating problem has nothing to do with the radiator not getting enough air to it, like i stated before. i was going to say i could only come up with two ideas of wut it could be. :cool:

1)like hellraz0r1337 said i was going to say it might possibly be a bad thermostat. it could do fine at low speeds and not open up at high speeds, its been known to happen.

2)otherwise i was going to say it might be a blown head gasket. i know you wouldnt think as much tarantula, however it very well could be, think about it. the faster you drive, say 60mph, the more power ## throwin through your engine, causing more COMPRESSION in the cylinders. the more compression can expose a small leak OR GAP.

3)which is why i am also including the fact that it could be a warped head. if you take the head off, and inspect the head gasket and find nothing wrong with it, check for head warpage.

if you do it yourself, use a straightedge and a flashlight. put the straight edge on and look to see if you see ANY light coming between the straightedge and the bottom of the head. if your not too positive, then you can always have the head taken to a machine shop, and let them look at it. they might just mill it down so that it would be flat, you know just on the safe side.

now tarantula, before you go telling people that they dont know anything about wut were talking about, make sure YOU fully understand wut the problem could be.
