i have a 98 gsx with an auto trans and my speedometer doesnt work. i have done some searching and everything i find is people having issues with the speedometer AND the odometer not working.....mine is just the speedometer though, odometer works just fine. i dont think the issue is the gauge either cause when i plug my evoscan in, it doesnt display the speed either. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Have you checked your speed sensor on the transmission? It would be towards he back of the bay and it's a black plastic stalk sticking up held on by 1 bolt. Fully remove the bolt BEFORE you pull the sensor up. Check to see that it's plugged in and it's not broken.

no i havent checked it yet cause i was figuring that the odometer ran off the speed sensor, so i thought it must be working.....or atleast it sounded good in my head. LOL

I mean it honestly could be an electrical connection but you said that your scanner didn't even pick up the speed as well which I assumed would lead it to the sensor itself.

Gotta start somewhere first.

ok i will have to get underneath the car and check it out. is there a way to test that speed sensor to see if it is working? and if that plug is good where would be the next place to look?

The speed sensor is on top of the transmission to the right of the battery. Make sure that the internals aren't busted or falling off.
