speedometer and headlight problems

hello i recently bought a 1990 laser rs turbo. The speedometer does not work at all no movement. i checked the cable and it is secure to the trans and the cluster. im not sure if its a bad cable or something 2.0 5 speed turbo also when i got it the lights have to be cranked from under the hood (wont go up or down) maybe if there was some sort of noise of one worked i night say motor on one side but neither do anything at all dont move make noise nothing. im just wondering if anyone else had any problems with both. I dont think both motors went bad like that but maybe a corroded ground or a bad switch??? thanks for your time and any help

check the fuses for the motors first.

Theres a relay for the headlights to pop up in the engine fuse box. Make sure its in there.

Chances are the plastic linkage for the headlights cracked and popped off, pop your hood and look down at the light and you'll see what I mean. It's a metal rod with plastic connectors that pop onto the arm on the motor and the headlight itself. If by chance they're still connected I would say you have corrosion or rust on the housing itself. Pop off said connecting rods and have a buddy hit the headlight switch, while you watch the arm on the motor. If it moves while the linkage is not connected the motor is fine. Keep the linkage off then, Pull the headlight up and down by hand, then grease the hell out of any moving parts. Reconnect the rod and they will work like new. As far as the speedo could be the speedo gear itself, was the trans apart recently?
