Special thanks to Dave and Phil for the thread title ;)

Took my 14b talon to the dsm/evo shootout in Norwalk hoping for a new best. About a week and a half ago I managed a 12.25 @ 111 at our local dragstrip. Since then I added a touch of timing up top, pulled a little from the middle, and took a little fuel out. Then I crushed my bov which proved to send the boost from 21 psi to 25 instantly. Obviously fixed a good leak, turned her back to 21psi and headed for norwalk.

I got there exactly at 9 and headed for the lines hoping for a pass or two while it was cool out. Hit the line and headed for the lights. The car hooked up instantly, track was very sticky! If I'd been better with the clutch the track was perfect for some great passes, alas I need a better driver mod. Cut a 1.7 60 ft. But when I grabbed the timeslip I was still ecstatic. 12.091 @ 113.92!

Had a couple issues and we finally got lined up for the first qualifying round. Tried to hit the launch better but the tires broke loose and I managed another 1.7 sixty. But I hit the new personal best of 12.050 @ 113.36. Timeslip breakdown

1.708 60 ft.
7.709 1/8th ET
89.49 1/8th mph
12.050 1/4th ET
113.36 1/4 MPH

Then it started to rain :(
Fortunately it cleared up and I got three more passes in, but between the track prep going away and it heating up I couldn't get the timeslips down. The runs went down like this:

12.132 @ 112.82 (Launched about sideways from the wheels spinning, shows a 1.67 60ft though)
12.8 @ 111.83 (Didn't lift foot all the way off clutch enabling NLTS off the launch! OOPS!)
12.139 @ 112.72 (Once again spinning hard, but a 1.69 60 ft anyways)

So no 11's yet! They'll come eventually, I'll be waiting for a nice cool day to head to one of our local dragstrips and try again. Mod list should be up to date for the essentials. In a lot of ways I feel like I have to earn my 11's by hitting those 12.0?'s just like Phil and Dave haha! Thanks to those guys and all the fellas in the 14b thread who've been an inspiration and a help.

Good job!:hellyeah: You'll definately have those 11s next time around. Would you mind posting a log? It would be really helpful to another 14b racer ;)

So close! But you know what? You are posting some great times regardless! BTW, I think I saw you on I-94 this afternoon.

Race weight is approximately 2740 with me in the car. Still some weight to lose, but I'm enjoying street driving the car currently. Drove the 250ish mile trip to Norwalk and back in her. Definately need to cut some better 60's, the track would've been perfect in the early morning, but after the rain and alot of street tires (myself included) it started to go away quick. Obviously a little spin is ok and actually improves my 60's, alot of spin isn't helping anything though!

I'd post a log but after my first two runs failed to log I gave up trying. Laptop kept bouncing or something and only logged a couple seconds into each run. I'll see if I can grab a log and post it for you soon.

That is a perfect video, props to whomever took and and the quality is killer too! Don't be in too much of a rush Shane...this is the fun part while it's still streetable and you're chopping a couple tenths every so often. When you get to where I am, the gratification isn't as plenty.

Congrats!

Thanks Phil! As I said, it kind of feels like I have to "earn" the 11 by hitting those 12.0's like you did so many times and Dave dealt with for a while as well. (Think Mr. Peepers dealt with it too but never got the 11). It's definately fun, and I'm happy with the new best, but I'll be overjoyed when I get the 11. I know jumping to slicks or drag radials would probably get me there, but it takes the streetable feel away from it. Plus loading 4 wheels into the car and swapping at the track doesn't look like a lot of fun yet. As said, maybe next year. Not sure how many guys have gotten into the 14b 11's on street tires either? So maybe a little pride if I do haha.

Props to my wifey for shooting the vid! With our lil Sony point & shoot camera, it takes pretty good vids!

Congrats on the new best... :thumb:

Thanks Warren!

Quick "update".
Got this picture from another DST competitor, thanks again Jim!

I did a few things to the talon and hope to have it back to the track before the end of September. Unfortunately I'll be waiting on some parts that won't be here before I take off on the wifey and I's vacation. Looks like the soonest I'll be able to hit the track would be September 16th. It'll probably be after that unfortunately. The good thing is I can guarantee myself some cooler weather so it should net me my goals, only time will tell!

I skipped breakfast and hit the john LOL! Looks like I need to run a couple miles first.

But, am I the only one who thinks my 1-2 shift looks slightly slow? Perhaps I should work on that some more too, probably would net me another hundreth at least.

So are you still on stock cams?

Absolutely! We drive up through Okemos all the time, just not usually in the talon LOL. The MIDSM folks are trying to get a track meet together for Sept. 21st at Milan too.

So are you still on stock cams?

Yep, stock cams.

Here's an old drag racing trick..... Try running lots of tire pressure on street tires. Over inflate them. You'll get more tire on the ground believe it or not. Give it a shot. I didn't believe it until I tried it.
