Obviously, first time poster. I'll get right down to it.

I bought my '97 Eclipse GS-T a couple of years ago to drive on weekends. It didn't pass smog last year and I drove it around for a good while with expired registration just to keep it going, as I didn't have the money to fix the smog or the inclination, busy with work.

I've finally decided to put some work into it, and after some digging I think I have a list of cost effective solutions to my problems. Here's the failed California smog sheet:

I'm still learning with cars in general and especially DSM's, but from what I can gather HC's being high are more of an ignition problem and NOx is.. something else?

So, as an overall, I was going to use Seafoam, clean out the EGR, change the front o2 sensor, replace spark plugs/wires (anyone know the proper gap? .30?), and check for leaks with a homemade leak tester.

Am I missing anything? Is there something else I should be looking for before all that fails and I have to drop like 800 on a new Cat?

Thanks in advance for the help... I'll try to provide more specifics if needed.

I plugged your smog results into a Lambda calculator, says your car is only running 1.2% rich which is about normal if the car is mainly stock. If you bring the car here I can get it smogged for you. PM me if you might be interested.

NGK BPR6ES gapped to 0.028", do a boost leak test, and check you cat converter. An mods done on it at all?

The Cat seems to be fine. No odd smells, and there doesn't seem to be anything rattling around in there. The only mods that are done are the air filter, KN, and the exhaust which is a 3" Megan.
