Hey, got a quick question
I just bought a 98 GST it has 88,000 miles on it. I went to get it smoged and it failed. It had high HC levels. Just barely failed though. Do you know what could cause this? I know it might be the plugs and wires, but will I need to replace my cat too?
Thanks

yah hydro carbon is basically unburned fuel going into and through your cat/exhaust. possible causes could be you running rich if your car is modded (fuel pump/injectors/etc). other reasons like you said could be plugs/wires/cat. id go w/the cheaper fix and hope you can pass it otherwise run sime isopropyl alcohol in it :shhh:

In CA, the smog test technician should've told you what you need to replace.
A high HC = bad catalytic converter.
I know, I had an issue with that.
Factory cats are bank, see if you can dial her in with the cheaper fixes first like the other guys said.....
