I have all my parts to install my 16g turbo but before i do i need to know if it will pass smog or not. I bought this car 2 months it failed smog (owner is willing to pay to fix it) and i have an extension on it from dmv. I read on here that when you go for a smog check do it when your cars warmed up well when i did it i took it to my work (ford) and it sat there all day intill the end of the day they they did the smog check once the car warmed up after 4 mins. i belive this is the reason for the fail. I plan on putting in that autozone pass product and taking it up there warm to a no pas no pay place. Will this 16g make me have a harder time passing smog? So far i have dejon upper intercooler pipe, 1g bov, 16g turbo with install kit, 550cc injectors, 190lph fuel pump, logger, k&n fipk with a new pipe, boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, exhaust temp gauge, and a SAFC2. All of these are not installed except for the gauges and the safc. Should i take it in now for smog or would installing the rest not affect anything? and if it will affect it will i have a problem 2 years from now when i have to resmog? Should i keep all the stock parts to put back on? Thanks for all the help.

Because of California's stupid visual inspection laws, I'd leave everything off, because unless you have CARB stickers for every part, they are technically illegal and will cause you to fail smog if you take it to a place that cares. Also, I'd have the previous owner pay to fix the smog problem so that you will have a nice car to begin modding on after you pass. Also, do keep all of your stock parts, because you will have to re-stock it to pass smog again.. unless you find a shop that doesn't care about visual :sneaky:

Yea he already said he would pay. What about in 2 years when i have to resmog it, cant i just put on all the stock tubes and leave the 16g and injectors in? Or should i remove them and put the stock turbo and injectors back on too?

You can probably get away with leaving the turbo and injectors on, because the injectors are unseen and your average mechanic won't be able to tell the difference between a 16g and stock. But, if they cause you to fail the emissions sniffer, you may end up having to switch back.

yes,the car has to apear stock to pass visual. obviously the fuel pump wont be seen, but it will make you run rich at idle.maybe if you can hook up the safc and lean it out. Obviously it has to be hidden. Cali sucks for this. I Miss florida. This is the reason why I'm making almost everything look like stock in my car, nothing flashy.

Just go to a "Pass or don't Pay" or "Pass or free re-test" smog center. If you fail the visual then just change the stuff out. Or just ask the mech straight up "Do you care?"

If you have a non CARB'ed hi-flow cat/test pipe/eliminator DP, I'd revert that back to stock. One, you'll fail the sniffer. Two, Removal of the cat, or installation of a non-CARB ceritified cat is a hefty "up to $10k" EPA fine. Gotta luv Cali :\

Well this is what my smog sheet says on it.

| %C02| Hc (PPM) | C0(%) |
Test Rpm | Meas | Max Ave meas | Max Ave Meas | Results |
Idle 784 | 14.40 | 100 17 121 | 1.00 0.00 0.03 | Fail |
2500 rpm 2476 | 14.40 | 130 12 55 | 1.00 0.10 0.11 | Pass |

Your car is crappin' out alot of Hydrocarbons. One of the Cat's purposes is the oxidize the HC...

For my Talon's initial smog, and being skeptical, I poured a bottle of some off the wall brand "pass your smog" juice in the fuel, and I blew only 2 for my Hc and zero for my C0 :D

When it comes to smog you have to run the car HARD up and down the block and then take it right in for smog. The cat wont do its job unless its hot. Just idle wont get it goin. People make their cars pass but beating on them right before the test.

So i should by that stuff you put in the tank and drive it hard to warm it up and then go for smog? Do i put the stuff in the tank in first then drive it arround or go up there with low fuel and then put it in?

Usually you put the passer juice in on a near empty tank, then fill up. Then as the tank get low (you gonna let the juice do its job), take it in for smog.
