1G Emissions fail high NOx

I have a 92 talon 2L non turbo I have pacesetter headers and a hi flow exhust I went for my emissions test and failed on NOx reading 1182 can anyone tell me how to reduce this # my car has 100,000 kms 60,000 miles they tell me my car is burning hot (combustion chamber) any ideas out there thanks:confused::mad:
 
Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner (MCCC) isn't difficult to use. Here's what I would recommend doing:

1) Purchase TWO bottles of MCCC.
2) Remove the hose connected to your PCV valve.
3) With the car idling, spray MCCC into the PCV hose you just disconnected. Be sure to spray it in small increments (not all at once). It should take quite a while to dispense of the entire bottle into the PCV hose.
4) You may need to have a friend in the driver's seat to modulate the throttle slightly, because the car will have trouble idling with the PCV hose disconnected.
5) Reconnect the hose to the PCV valve.
6) Remove your spark plugs and wires and spray MCCC down into each cylinder. Try to spray about 1/4 of the bottle into each cylinder.
7) Let the car sit overnight.
8) Before you put the plugs and wires back in, try to get as much of the cleaner out of the cylinders as possible. You can use a twisted up paper towell, a shop-vac with a tiny extender, or compressed air to blow it out.
9) If you can't get the cleaner out of the cylinders, let me know and I'll tell you another method you can use.
10) Once you've cleaned out the cylinders, put the plugs and wires back in and start up your car. It may act weird for a little while, but it will normalize.

Do I need new plugs after the pcv hose spray job? I saw somewhere that they get really crapped out from the treatment.
 
This is possibly my last dumb-ass question.... Since this engine [2.0L N/T] is not similar to my '85 Cutlass'[!!!] - where EXACTLY is the pcv valve located? Because the temp outside is 18°, I want to run out, pop the hood, find the valve, then run back inside before my fingers [and brain] freeze over!
 
I'm not sure how much different the NT motor is than the turbo motor, but on my 98 GSX the PCV valve is on the rear-passenger side of the valve cover. It should be the only valve attached to outside of the valve cover. And even though it's cold, I would recommend taking your time so as not to damage anything in the process. I would also let your car warm up to operating temp before you spray the cleaner into the PCV valve.

During fall you should always make friends with people who have empty garages. Basically I'm saying go with the warm up advice from Eclipsor16G. Dispensing the cleaner will take awhile, so you'll end up freezing eventually.
 
But Florida has those annoying love bugs that splat all over the windshield [1000's of them].... and you need a ice scraper to get them off!!
ANYWAY - First I put in an old set of spark plugs and then I bought two cans of the cleaner and sprayed one complete can into the PCV hose [yes, with the engine running!!]... [not as much exhaust smoke occurred as I expected, though... and the engine did not want to stall out too bad either!!]. Then I removed the plugs and sprayed the other complete can into the cylinders. Now my car is resting comfortably overnight. Tomorrow I plan to clean out the cylinders somehow and replace the good plugs... and turn the key. If all goes well then I'll change the oil and filter. If the car feels good then I think I'll head down to Atlantic City in the afternoon 'cause Lady Luck is smiling on me!!!!!!!!!
Is there anything else that I should know or do before I continue tomorrow?
 
NOX is forms when the cylinder temps exceed 2500 degrees. The only way you can cool cylinders in a emissions test type process is to have a functioning egr valve----I am a Phase4 certifies emissions tech here in washington where we dont test for nox---------but if you have faulty controllers to the egr valve and its turning off at the wrong rpm or the egr valve spring is worn internally is wont open fast enough at the right time------
 
Most often when you fail NOx and the EGR is functioning properly look into the catalytic converter- many after market replacement converters are 2 way (HC, CO) rather than 3 way (HC, CO, NOx). If the cat has been replaced look into it. Your car has too high of a number to have a well functioning cat.
 
Yay, I passed, I PASSED,I PASSED,OMG I PASSED, I PAS:DSED, I PASSED,:laugh: . I got the NOx down to 1063 and 1088 is the limit! I just squeeked thru! The Mopar cleaner treatment worked. I also retarded the timing just a schooch and triple checked that the EGR valve was indeed opening. . . And a good side effect - my annoying tap-tap-tap has vanished after the cleaning!!!
Total cost......... $12.19 !!
 
i'm wondering what to do i have a extremely high Nox reading also. But my reading is incredibly higher than the ones posted here. living in utah the limit is 1500 or so, my car is putting out 5800OMG. the guy at the testing place said to check my timing, egr and my cat. any specific order i should check and or replace these? i know this thread is old but its the only one that came up when i searched high nox :beatentodeath:
