how much power will i get from a small 16g @ 15 pounds on a stock 98 gst?

There are alot of variables so there is now way to really tell but i would guess about 200 WHP. How are you getting 15PSI on a stock car.

i was just going to replace the feul pump and put in a boost controler

whats the point of replacing the fuel pump on stock injectors, i mean there is some gain. Instead of the 500-700 on getting a new turbo, start down the right path of upgrades and build your car around the S16g. Then you won't be surprised to see 275 to the wheels. And i hope you have an A/F gauge because just turning up the boost is a simple solution for a motor to go boom!

i just bought my car 2 weeks ago and just found a small 16g and though i mingt bid in it. i have little mony to put in so most of the parts im putting on are use or off ebay, can i buy any kind of a/f guage?

I think you need to do a little more research before attempting this...

An A/F gauge will do you little to no good supposing you purchase the more common variety, which feeds off the stock narrowband O2 sensor. These types of A/F gauges are nowhere near accurate or precise enough and provide no usable data about the A/F ratio. A wideband O2 sensor is the only way to go when you really want to know what the A/F ratio is.

There is one gauge you should buy though, a boost gauge. Autometer makes quality mechanical boost gauges for under $50; if you don't have one already, I suggest you buy one now. The stock boost gauge isn't accurate and cannot be used to measure turbo activity. You can also buy a small single gauge pod for $20-$40 to mount the boost gauge in.

As for the 16G, you'll need an adapter kit since you have a 2G DSM. This kit will include a J-pipe to adapt the turbo the stock IC piping, plus all of the necessary oil/coolant lines, fittings, fasteners and sometimes gaskets too.

The stock fuel system is known to be good up to about 16psi, so you should actually be OK in that area. Like you said, you'll also need an MBC since the stock 16G wastegates are set at 10psi. If you keep the boost at 15psi, you shouldn't have any problems. I would take the money you were going to spend on the fuel pump and buy a boost gauge and the install kit instead.

Check out some of the site's sponsors for anything I meantioned about; I know SBR, for one, carries all of the necessart parts for this project.

Good luck.

i should have the boost guage by the end of the week, if i do the swap and some other small things do you think i can hit 300hp?

That's hard to say; there are really too many variables to make that type of judgement on paper. The only way to know is to get everything installed, and have the car dynoed.

yah i know i just have to find one around here, as well as a junkyard!

does the setting for a bov ( hard-soft) change the amount of boost you have?

Where's Hatboro? You could always go on a little road trip to Buschur in Wakeman, OH for a dyno. :D

Not quite, but if the BOV is set too low, and it leaks, you'll have a difficult time building higher boost.

You will need a quite a few mods for 300 HP like injectors, fuel pump 190, hard pipeing, more boost than 15psi, BOV, MBC, a larger turbo than a small 16g would help a lot, and a front mount would help to, with a purfect tune. Good luck.

Bottom line is that this is bench racing, and bench racing is against the rules.

Also, if you have a specific question about a part, or modification, please research it before posting a thread aBout it.
