Right now I have a big 16g and im thinking about stuffing a 20g wheel in it. I dont want to spend a lot more money on the car and this seems the cheapest way to go. What exactly do I need to do this? Just the 20g compressor wheel? Is the turbine wheel the same? And how much will I have to machine the housing to fit the 20g wheel?

should I get a tdo5 or tdo6 wheel? Does it matter?

If you are talking in terms of turbine wheels: your current big16g has tdo5h. There are larger options available tdo6/6sl2/6h. You would need to purchase the turbine wheel and have the turbine housing machined for the larger wheel like you would compressor.
The tdo5h however, can keep up with the 20g compressor wheel in terms of flow up to about 23-24psi. If you plan on going higher, you may want to upgrade to one of the larger turbines for increased exhaust flow.

Exhaust turbine and housing are the same size on 20g and 16g. It's the compressor wheel and housing that are bigger.

yes, he can use his current turbine housing and tdo5h turbine. He can upgrade his turbine/housing to a larger one for exhaust flow but will most likely be unnecessary under 400whp. Sleeper 16gs/Bastard 20gs are typically sold with tdo5h turbine for base model and offer tdo6h turbine as an $upgrade$

are the 20g compressor wheels all the same size? It looks like you can get a td05 or a tdo6.

I was wondering the same thing. Most places list a tdo5 and a tdo6. Are they any different? I havent been able to find the answer either. The tdo5 and tdo6 housings use the same bearings and seals but that doesnt mean anything.

All 20G wheels are the same, the exception being the various wheels used in the Frank 20G's.

TD05H or TD06 refers to the turbine.

so any 20g wheel will fit on the shaft of a big 16g? Just making sure

hmm, that doesnt sound too bad. 60 to machine it

The backplate of the Big 16G, Evo III 16G, 18G, and 20G compressor wheels are all the same diameter. If you're replacing a Big 16G or Evo III 16G wheel with a 20G wheel, the only thing that will have to be machined is the compressor cover. If you're replacing a Small 16G compressor, the center housing will also need to be machined to accept the larger compressor backplate.

Most Sleeper 16G / Bastard 20G's use the TD05H turbine, although there are some out there with TD06 and TD06H turbine wheels that are better-balanced to the flow potential of the 20G compressor. I honestly feel the TD05H turbine is fine for a turbo like this because your flow potential is going to be limited to what the TD05H 16G compressor cover can handle.

Hey jusmx141 i was wondering what would be the procedure to upgrade a big 16g with this kit ...its already machined to fit the Mitsubishi TD06 20G Compressor wheel and has a 3 inch inlet ...do u think its worth the $206US asking price and what would be the gain in flow mated to a Td05 turbine (max hp) ...is it a straight forward process to remove the TD05 16g wheel and cover and replace them with the kit on the link i included...thanks man :D:D:hellyeah::hellyeah: Turbo Compressor upgrade Kit SUBARU Impreza TD05 20G - eBay (item 270362032162 end time Apr-20-09 09:36:19 PDT)

I'm so lost after reading this.

I'm wanting to do this.

I have a EVOIII on my 2g and a 20G taken apart for a rebuild and it is now just sitting around.

I need to know what do I need to do to make this work?

What parts am I using from the 20G. What needs to be machined if any?

What possible gains will I see from this?

Sorry to Hi-Jack, but I'm confused.

If you have a EVOIII and a 20g already. Take the compressor wheel from the 20g and put it on the 16g then used the 20g compressor cover - instant td05 20g. You may want to find a local turbo shop to balance it for you.

About 40-50 hp potential gain.
