Right now I have a big 16g and im thinking about stuffing a 20g wheel in it. I dont want to spend a lot more money on the car and this seems the cheapest way to go. What exactly do I need to do this? Just the 20g compressor wheel? Is the turbine wheel the same? And how much will I have to machine the housing to fit the 20g wheel?

I searched, didnt really say what is needed to make one

The backplate of the Big 16G, Evo III 16G, 18G, and 20G compressor wheels are all the same diameter. If you're replacing a Big 16G or Evo III 16G wheel with a 20G wheel, the only thing that will have to be machined is the compressor cover. If you're replacing a Small 16G compressor, the center housing will also need to be machined to accept the larger compressor backplate.

Most Sleeper 16G / Bastard 20G's use the TD05H turbine, although there are some out there with TD06 and TD06H turbine wheels that are better-balanced to the flow potential of the 20G compressor. I honestly feel the TD05H turbine is fine for a turbo like this because your flow potential is going to be limited to what the TD05H 16G compressor cover can handle.

Ok, so I just need a 20g compressor wheel. How much does the housing need to be machined?

.018" will need to be removed from the inducer area if your current turbo is a Big 16G, although there will be correction needed to the apex of where the wheel meets the housing. You can't just punch out the inlet / inducer area and slam the new wheel in there....the person trimming the housing has to know what they're doing.

Could forcedperformance machine the housing?

600 dollars will get you a holset and a bep housing that will make 500 hp and has more potential... 600 dollars is way too much to upgrade a 16g to a sleeper 16g

well I can get a 20g compressor wheel for 180 from forcedperformance and I could get the maching done maybe for free or really cheap. So it doesnt look like it will be too much. Doesnt seem too bad to make alittle bit more power. I really wont be needing a bigger turbo untill I build my motor anyways.

sorry, I gotta change my profile. I dropped In a used motor after my last motor bent the valves.

the holset option above sounds more benifical and will yield the potential for more bang per dollar. thats the route i would go.

Some people want sleeper look, and some need it. I would love something like this being in California, and since it would cost you around $1k for a 20g or 50trim turbo the upgrade yielding almost the same power potential is pretty nice.

That's not bad considering the price. I wonder how well it would hold up though..

another option - look for a 20g that needs rebuilding.

I picked up a 20g that needs to be rebuilt for cheap. I was planning on just using the cover and compressor wheel, (less than the ebay item) but changed my mind and am going to rebuild it and use a td05 housing that I have.

I am hoping to get near as fast spool as my 16g with an extra 40-50 hp capability for under $250

should I get a tdo5 or tdo6 wheel? Does it matter?
