Im real curious... how does your paint go after prep? 2 coats then water sand then another coat then clear?

Paint is just like anything else, the more time and effort you put into, the better it will be. I used to work on the paint line at the BMW plant here in SC. After primer, the robots sprayed one to two base coats depending on color, then were pulled through a flash off oven that allowed the paint to de-gas, then the clear was applied. About 35 minutes in the cure oven and it was ready to be assembled.

There is really no sanding needed between base and clear if you don't allow the base to cure completely. AND most of the bases today, will ruin if you don't get clear on them in 24 hours or less. If your body prep is done properly, a simple flash off ( which just lets all the gasses get out of the base coat so no bubbles appear in the clear) and a couple nice coats of clear, and you are golden. Allow that to cure then do some fine water sanding and buffing. You will have a finish worth showing off.

The key to an awesome finish is the body prep though. Spend the extra time there, and it will show up in the end.

Wow Sandman ! That looks awesome ! Is it as durable as the factory paint ?

I'll be rattlecanning a bumper in my near future, just going to hit it with grease remover, adhesion promoter, as many very light matte white coats as it takes, and a few light coats of gloss white.

Painted by me but its what I do for a living:

I recently Plastidipped my car and I cant figure out how I'm gonna clean it :/ When I figure it out I'm gonna spray a satin clear coat over it. Guys who've Plastidipped their cars; how do you clean your car??

Here is mine <img src="http://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/files/1/0/2/1/4/8/185.jpg" alt="Day Of Purchase/engine Swap Out" /> i am not sure what it is i got it this way but i like most is the paint matched wheels but when the light hits it right you see all the sanding marks under the paint like they did a quick in a hurry job. the engine bay is the absolute worst as its peeling everywhere but i plan to change that.

Yep, body kit killed it. The front bumper wouldn't look half bad if it didn't flair so far out. But paint work look solid.
