why dont you call the machine shop first instead of asking us what you should bring in to the shop. Duh

diffrent shops will want diffrent things, some old or hack shops do not have the equipment to do a full balance or mache work.

By asking these questions, the new guys and first time builders will get an idea of what better shops will want, and get replies from JAM (Jackson Auto) and myself.

We do this everyday. so we know the names and model numbers of the newer and up to date equipment out there.

so with out the OP asking this question he may end up at a shop that will only "half " balance his engine.

so now he has an idea of what sould be going to a machine shop to have his engine fully balanced.


now vette, the fluid dampner will be attached to the crank, and any weight theat needs to be removed or added will be done on the crank

Are you planing a balance shaft removal? If so I would just get them balanced with the pistons and crank.

A side note, balance shafts are not called balance shafts per the manual. They are called silence shafts. They offer no balancing result to the assembly at all whatsoever. There is no relation to having your assembly balanced with the removal of silence shafts. So anything he does should be done regardless of silence shaft installation or not.

From what other members have said...the rods are pretty good. Depending on how serious your build is, you may want to follow advice and have everything balanced.

I know stock engine internals don't tend to be very well balanced. The rods from an '03 Yamaha R6 motor (15,000rpm) were +/- 2.5 grams, which is a huge percentage. So i suppose you can get away with not balancing if you match the pistons to the rods (if you're Yamaha).
