When it starts to get a little warmer out i plan on rebuilding my bottom end. Due to all I've read and what my friend just went through with topline kits, i'll be going oem. I found that I can easily keep this under $1000 without having to replace the rods, but im a little unclear as to whether this is common place or not to replace them. Obviously if they are damaged in any way i would replace them, but generally speaking is this something that is usually done? I really never plan on going above 350hp

I also have a question about the front case/oil pump. I recently eliminated the b/s on my car. If i were to rebuild this engine, would i be able to reuse the front case and just get new oil gears as long as the front case was in good condition? Would this in essence give me a "new oil pump" or would i have to replace the whole front case and rear oil pump cover?

Thanks

Unless you are really going to push the horsepower, the stock rods should be ok.

The case should be ok unless you find scoring inside. If it's not damaged by scoring, you should be ok there also.

Good Luck

I see you wanna run around 350bhp.
If your gonna run OEM rods don't run higher than 1 Bar of boost, or you'll be looking for a new block when it throws a rod out the side.

Thats not true... 1 bar isn't that much boost its only roughly 15 psi. And ofcourse it would depend on the turbo you are running. But I have several friends and many tuners around my area running stock rods well over 20 psi. Which is like 1.3-1.4 bar or so...

Without even rebuilding my engine yet, im running 22psi on an evoIII so i would say you are misinformed about throwing a rod. From what i've heard/read, the 1g big rods(which is what i have) can hold about 400hp or so. I don't know if you were talking about 2g rods or not.

1G big rods are good up to 500 - 550 HP.
2G rods are good to about 400HP.
