Hey, so i have a 6 bolt block and a rebuilt head with it and i just got these used forged pistons and rods for free, i was told they were from a 2gen but from what i’ve read the 2gens had bigger pistons but these are marked 85mm isn’t that the same size as the 6 bolt pistons? Can i use them in my 6 bolt? But one of the rods is blue on the crankshaft side like it has heated up, i will put pictures with this post, can anyone see and tell me if they are usable?

I would never use rods that came "free" with one of them looking that bad. Whatever engine they came from spun a bearing. Just because that one got trashed, you never know how much glitter got recirculated through the oiling system and into the other rods. At least you got them for free, because the entire set should be recycled. Also the wrist pin hole is 1mm bigger on a 2G piston, so you'd need to have your 6 bolt pistons bored out to accept the pins.

Not to unrail the thread but I am looking for a set of 2g forged 85mm pistons if you find out they ARE for a 2g and decide to sell them. I have a 7 bolt needing them.
I wouldn't use that one rod for sure and I'd also be skeptical of the others. If it got hot enough to blue it, it has changed it's metallurgy.
Continue on.......

But if i decide to use these forged pistons from a 2G what do i need to do to use them in a 1G, do have to buy 1g rods or 2g rods?

Can i just buy new 2g rods and use them in my 6 bolt?

If you are dead set on using 2G pistons in a 6-bolt (assuming these are actually 2G pistons), get a set of 6-bolt rods and have the wrist pin holes bored 1mm oversize. Then you can install the 2G pistons on them.

Generally speaking, 7-bolt rods cannot be used in a 6-bolt engine and vice versa.

Get 6-bolt rods for your 6-bolt block and then modify them to accept the 2G pistons if need be. See here for the machining details.

Beat me while I was typing.... LOL

He did but check the link. There is more to it. The rod has to be narrowed also.

I have used a rod with "some" blue on the big end when there was no evidence of a spun bearing in the journal, I did have it resized though and the machine shop said it was good to go and not to worry about it.
