Are these rods usable/repairable

I bought a 6-bolt motor with 160k on it for my project car for $300 hoping to rebuild it and I came across this:

This was the worst of the rods. This is the first time I have ever built/rebuilt an engine so I am asking for advise on what I can do with these rods. Also, I was wondering if the crank looks ok as well:

I still need to get the crank out to check the mains, but I want an idea now of what is going to take to repair this motor. I can get more pics later if needed. Thanks.

A good machinist/machine shop may be able to fix those rods if you wanted. They will resize them, which is sort of like line boring the mains. They machine a little bit of material away from the mating surfaces of the rod cap and rod, then machine the opening back to the correct size. Just take them in to a machinist you trust and see what he (or she) says.

The rod journals on the crank will, at the least, need to be polished. If those grooves are deep enough, then the crank would need to be ground.

I would say it may be cheaper to find a good used set of rods and another crank, but I bought 2 cranks that were advertised as "good" that looked worse than the one you have there. I ended up just polishing the original and using it.
 
Those rods may be salvageable. You would need to take them to an expieranced machinist and see what he says. Crank looks fine. A polish or @ worst a quick turning and it will be good to go.
 
Thanks for your input guys. I might be going with a forged rotating assembly anyway, but being a budget build I'm trying to save money where I can.
 
How did the rod bearings look? I don't see any heat damage, or scoring of the rod journals.

I remember them looking similar to the journals. It's been a few days and the engine is at my grandparents house. I'm taking them up to JNZ Tuning today to see what they think and find out what machine shop they use.
 
Went to the machine shop yesterday. The head machinist wasn't able to actually check the rod journals because I didn't have the rod caps torqued down to spec, but from first impression he thought they looked fine and that a good polishing will make them look new.
