My turbo is going out my car is smokes when started up and under boost, oil leaking around the compressor housing so, I have two choices rebuild my 14b or buy a 16g my friend has. The rebuild would only cost 100 but if I bought that EVOIII 16g it would cost me 600 and money is tight, so heres the question if I rebuild it and dont balance it right will the turbo grenade itself and hurt my engine. What should I do also my dad used to rebuild turbo's on diesels so he could do it for me.

Yea thats what im thinking to I trust my dad he is the best mechanic I know so I dont think he'll have a problem doing it and if its not my turbo that is smoking that I wont be wasting 500 bucks but im 95% sure it is, but on the slight chance he rebuilds it and dosent balance it right will it grenade and hurt my engine.

As long as you have a DSM money is gonna be tight, jk. (no i'm not) Depends on what your future plans are. Why spend more money to upgrade later?. You just want your turbo correct? If so I would say trust your dads experience

Well I just want it to stop smoking and I dont really need a 16g for what im planning on in the future I just want to make a little over 300hp so the 14b will supply that but the question im trying to figure out is if the turbo grenades itself will it hurt my engine?

Its little cheaper than my friends but his is a EVOIII and its been ported by SBR and comes with a ported 2g mani.

If I where to get a 16g would I have to get a Boost controller or could I just run it without one? I know I cant run over 16psi.
