Shifter cable

So I am doing a part out and someone wanted to know if a shifter cable off of a 2g GST would fit a 2g talon? both are FWD. he bought a cable off a 97 GST but said it doesn't shift right? could this be that the cable doesn't match up right? or is it something else wrong that could cause the problem. Thanks!

They are the same from model to model. Now I thought that there was a difference in the year though, but I can't find it now.

They are the exact same. You need to make sure the cables are lined up correctly or your car will not shift right.
