My 91 talon upper shifter cable nearest to the motor snap and I cant seem to get into some of the gears? For sure I cant get it into 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse, I think. Can anyone tell me what gear I can use with just the bottom cable? I just need to get home from work.

I have a 92 eclipse gsx sitting around, would the both the shifter cables from that car be direct fit?

Thanks...

Weird, this happened to my friends car yesterday. We had to manuelly put on 2nd gear underneath the hood. And drove 40m/hr all the way home. For 92 to fit? Should fit, just make sure you use the 91 bracket for shifter cables that sits on the transmission.
Best of luck

The 3/4 shift fork is used when the shifter is in the middle. You will probably smoke your clutch pulling out in 3rd gear if you have to do it more than a couple times. I drove home like that after I broke the intermediate shaft in half and I lost 1st & 2nd. My clutch disc was smoked after about 40 miles and I only had to pull out from a stop about 3-4 times! It was probably half way gone before that anyway...

So I shouldn't drive it in 3rd and 4th gear home? Its about 15 miles mostly highway. Whats best thing for me to do? Tow it home? Will it help if I rev it high and stick it in 3rd and use 4th on the highway?

You can try, but I am just saying the I tore up my clutch disc doing that. I dont remember which disc i was running back then. It was all highway when I drive too. Right now all you need are new shifter cables, which you have. A drive home might have you pulling the tranny to replace the clutch! If it was me, I would have it towed. Or get a ride and bring the cables back and fix it in the parking lot. It's not too hard of a job.

No. Launching the car in 3rd wouldnt be a good Idea. Nor would over revving to comp for the high gear start.
It would be alot cheaper for you to get a different ride home, then fix the cable with the car at work.
Unless you wanna just drive it anyway, and replace more things that just the cable.

I broke a shift cable about an hour and a half from home, only had third, fifth and reverse, I could sometimes grab first if I shut it off and messed around with the shifter, luckily I didn't hit any red lights. Clutch was still in perfect shape, although it was fairly new... :thumb:

Yeah my street disc and act 2600 clutch is still fairly new and hopefully I can make it home without any red lights.

I got it home last night. I basically had to overlap the cables and use a visegrip to tighten it down very hard and was able to shift to 1st throught 4th gear home.
Thanks for all the suggestion.

I have a spare shifter cable too so I won't have to buy a new one. Thanks though.

I finally got home yesterday and switch out the cable. I switch out only one of the cable I needed. everything works like a charm now. About a one hour job if you don't know where everything is otherwise maybe a 30 minute job.

Not too hard of a job. Just two bolts under the dash (arm reachable) and one under the radio then disconnect from the tranny and yanked it out, easily though....new cable still in good condition but boot was rip that the wire was showing, shouldn't be big of a deal.
