Anyone make a replacement upgraded bushing for the cable end inside the car? The one that hooks to the forward and back motion of the shifter. I just installed my b&m short shifter, rre shifter base bushings, and underhood cable end bushings.
I noticed that this bushing in particular has ALOT of play in it.

You have me curious, once it stops raining I will go out and take a look at it. If I can fab up something that will work, I'll let you know.

I have all the same shifter accessories as you, so it should be pretty straight-forward,

Did you come up with anything?

Not yet bro, I've been HELLA busy. I'll take a look this weekend.

Others feel free to do the same.

How did you guys get the lower shifter cable cotter pin out? Mine would not come out, and when I pulled hard enough the cable would move forward. I tried pulling it out from that position but still it wouldn't come out. I got the top bushing on easilly but now the cotter pin is broken on each end with hardly anything left of the pin except for where it is inserted.

I've also looked at this part of the shifter but it seems like there isnt anything small enough to replace it. they are much smaller then the ones under the hood of the car. You might be able to use smaller washers and fit like 2-3 inside the slot

How about cutting up a soda can and using it like a shim to take up the space in the cable ends? That should remove some slop from the cables. Just wrap some around the post/pin and reinstall the cable end. While you're in there, lube it with some good grease, too.

I did this EXACT same thing yesterday, only I used very thin copper sheet metal, There is ZERO play in the shifter afterwards and it feels more precise.:thumb:

You guys are talking about that little plastic joke of a bushing shit right? It allows so much play in the shifter it's ridiculous, and on top of that mine is cracked. Could DSM's have any worse of a shift linkage design?? The whole layout just licks ass if you ask me, and they always grind. Rofl I still love the car though, there's just something about it that's unique.

So is there any replacement for the bushings inside the car?? I had one fall out and I can't find it anywhere. Get got a bm shifter and all the bushings avaiable but still need the inside bushings.
=Jason-

heh heh, our shifters get more play than hugh hefner. . .

besides those interior car bushings, I noticed the shifter rotates on an arm with these meesly little plastic bushings. I cut out milk carton washers and put them in line with the washers attaching the shifter to the shifter arm and it took out a bit of the play.

Leet, if you fab something up let me know. . .

:dsm: yay for dsms and all their jimmy-rigged solutions.

yea i have alot of play in that spot also. if someone could use fab up a brass bushing that would be a 2 piece design and would fit onto the little nub and the cable good go over it, my shifter would be un real. i'd pay 25$ for a bushing like that :)
