I recently bought these: http://machv.com/mavshcast.html (the bearings, not the urethane ones)

BUT, few days later I found these: http://speed-source.net/products/shifter_cable.htm

Now, which kit would be more secure?
MachV parts you have to press in, much more involved. Is there a chance of them slipping out over time of hard shifting, as they're only pressed in, or the welds somehow failing and the part falling apart? These are two (I think roller skate wheel) bearings welded together, so the center metal sleeve is separated by a layer of some type of poly/urethane from the outside sleeve and it spins freely, but with absolutely no play--very solid.

Speed Source parts are secured with an E-clip. It's a solid brass part. Is there a possibilty of E-clips failing over time of hard driving/shifting?
I'm a little pissed that I didn't find the Speed Source parts first, because installation is MUCH easier and swap from cable ends to new cables would be much easier as well.

Spill your thoughts.

The only potential problem that I see with the bearings is that eventually, just like with inline skates, the bearings will get crud inside them and eventually not move as freely as they did when new. (I used to work in a skate shop, saw some pretty nasty bearings in my time)

Just my .02

I went with the solid brass ones from dsmparts.com, they see to work fine, albeit they've only been in the car about 3 days now. Personally I think the longevity/security of the solid brass replacements is better.

Man, if you want to know which one is better as far as stability then go with the solid. Solid obviously won't crack and split and since yours is welded that could be a problem. I said no one has had any problems cracking the welds that I know of so far. So you are fine. The only problem would be the cotter pin, but that would be the case on either or. Does that answer your question?

That's a post I can respect. :thumb:

The bushings on dsmparts.com are actually supplied by Speed Source.

I still dont know if I want to trust the E-clip.

Personally I think those kits are garbage. I just did my bushings today and it only cost me $4.88 and I have enough parts left over to do 3 more cars. All the 'bushings' are are rollerblade/skate board bearings. If you go to any skate shop you can do the mod for a couple dollars and end up with the same results as the $20 Mach V kit. Just my .$02

is there anyway to get the cable out and put the bushings in while its out the car?

Of course, if you're swapping the cables--it might actually be more comfortable. Did you not read the instructions?

They are cake to do anyway, so why the need to take them out.

The solid bushing is the way to go. The bearing thing is just a fad and will fade away Im sure. I doubt that there is any differance from the bearing to the bushing. The parts are not moving at any high speed or under tremendous forces. That C clip will not fall out I promise. Send back you rollerskate bearings and get a nice bushing kit and you dont have to worry.

i bought the solid brass ones a few days ago...havent gotten here yet. instead of making a new thread, to anyone with them, how do they feel? what is stiffened up? im not positive on what actually gets stiffened up.

I have those brass bushings from http://speed-source.net/products/shifter_cable.htm. I like them, really solid feel as oppose to the stock ones. The C clip will never fall out, trust me. I had to put mine on using a pair of pliars. I used to get grinding gears every so often and these little suckers seemed to cure that along with urethane shifter plate bushings. Just solid clean shifts. :thumb:

I vouge for the solid brass ones too. I just bought some off of e-bay (greenwoodmotorsports) for $24 about a month ago for the GS-T and they really did make a diff. in feel. Much tighter. Not to mention the stockers were starting to dry rot pretty bad. The shifter plate bushings are going in next week when they get here. Got them from the same place off e-bay :thumb:

i did the single skateboard bearing with a washser to make up the difference. also did the washer semi-symborski mod and the car shifts absolutely perfect right now. no guess as to what gear the car is in or anything. honestly with the slight slop in the bearings even if it seized up sometime down the line i don't see it being any worse than the brass bushings would be. i bought a skateboard for $5.99 at meijer and it had 8 of them so i have 3 sets of spares right now in case anything ever does go wrong.

I also have the speed-source bushings and they are great. I felt a difference instantly after installing them.
