shifter bushings

I just did the 2 under the hood today, bought 2 rollerblade bearings from the local Canadian Tire for 4 bux...then the fun began.

First off the cotter pin was almost impossible to get out then when I tried to put the first bearing in I used a big C clamp...it broke pretty fast... Got it 3/4 of the way in with vice grips then said fock it and went on to the second...it went in a little easier but was still a PITA.

Overall I didn't notice very much of a difference at all, not worth all the hassle for such minimal gain IMO.

I installed the Speed-source shifter bushing at the tranny. Mine went on no problem and I noticed a difference right away.

This is with a symborski kit and B&M shortshifter(50% throw) already on the car.

I never said anything about the bushings being diffictult to install, I just couldn't get the damn cotter pin out, and I couldn't work on my car anymore cause I was outside in pitch black so after I finished the top cable, I just said #### it. I let my dad mess with it today, once he got the cotter pin out, I got the bushing on right away.

Hey I heard of some guys just using washers to stiffen up the shift plate instead of spending the 30 bucks on the kit. Has anyone ever done this? If so how didi it work?

I just installed both set (underhood and shifter base) set of bushing and adjusted my cables :thumb:

Shifting is much more positive now.

Which ones did you use? Skate bearings under the hood? What about at the plate?

I have some thick washers at my shifter base, and an underhood "kit".

The only downside is I notice how notchy the 1-2 shift is on my rebuilt tranny.

The rest of the shifts are NICE.

I used the brass bushings under the hood and t-6 shifter ones on the shifter base.

It took me approx 40 minutes to adjust the cables, and install the shifter bases bushings, and about 10 minutes to replace the underhoods with brass.

Shifting is much better (more positive and tighter) in all gears. :thumb:

Good, cheap, simple, mod.

Well after doing the under hood bushings and not really feeling any difference, I decided to try the shifter plate bushings from greenwood motorsports (he sells them on the trader all the time) I wasn't expecting them to make much of a diffence, but after I put them in all I can say is WOW, night and day difference. The shifter feels so tight and precise, the shifts are so defined... I love it :thumb:
Also they don't really make much noise at all when shifting anf there is no vibration to speak of.

Overall one of the easiest and best mods I have ever done to my car, for anyone thinking about getting them, Do it. I wish i had of done it years ago.
