I was told that you can get some bushings for the 1st gen tranny, that made the shifter not so sloppy. Has anyone installed these? And where can I get them?

yeah, I have both. There is the Symborski Shift Kit for the shift plate inside the car. I think you can still buy that from MachV. There is also a shifter cable end bushing kit which replaces the rubber bushings under the hood with metal ones. Check out speed-source.net

Thanks alot! Can you also recomend anything else that might help with the sifting, And what is a good short throw?

Cut the shifter and weld it yourself - $0 (OK maybe $10 if you get someone else to weld it)
Use steel spacers under the shifter plate (Chevy rocker arm pivots work great) - $0
Use rollerblade bearings for the shift cable bushings - $8

The feeling of having a DSM that shifts smooth and fast - PRICELESS!!

I got em and they made a real difference. Got em from Innovative Motorsports on ebay worth the money. :thumb:

don't cut your shifter and weld it. that does nothing. a true short throw shifter will move the pivot point to change the throw distance.

There are a lot of 1st gen short shifter kits available on eBay for our cars that are a two piece kit. They appear to greatly reduce the throw, I bought one and just got it today... I'll hopefully have some good news tomorrow when I install it! :)

Also, in response to the guy who mentioned rollerblade bearings, I wondered about that. I've seen pictures and could have sworn that's all those people were selling. Will those really fit the linkages under the hood? I have a couple laying around I might consider trying to mount if it's really that easy.

I have the OBX shifter from ebay and it does reduce the throw a little. not too much that it's annoying. now I just have to rebiuld my tranny to make it better.

ps. make sure you adjust your shifter cables, makes a difference.

here is a detailed writeup from the tech setion on the skateboard bearing linkage mod. Linkey

Simple little fix that makes a nice differance.
