This might be a newb question,(I think it is), I am trying to time my 1g I get it up to operating temps ground the wire that is behind the battery and check and i dont see the mark at all. i have painted the divets in the pully but i think that since my idle isnt sitting wehre it is supposed to it wont work. ive pulled out my iac plug and idle switch plug but it still isnt working. thanks again i know that by iac is screwed should i just wait to get my new iac which is on the way to time it and drive my truck?

You need to ground the plug behind the battery on the copper inside the plug, don't connect to the plastic.

Then make sure your timing gun is connected on the #1 plug (closest wire on the driver side) and start shooting towards the plastic cover where the TDC marks are.

Try moving the CAS around till you can find the marks on the crank hub.

Any particular reason why you need to connect the timing gun to #1 plug? Can't you just connect it straight to the engine block for good grounding?

ok i dont see how it is possible but i lifted the car up removed the plastic cover behind the driver side wheel while i was trying to time it and still no mark. so what i did was pulled the gun under the car and found the marks 180* off!!! you know where the timing marks are.... well if i could rotate the pulley 180* it would be in the right location is there some way i can move it? how does that make any sense. i wouldnt think that the pully could be rotated because of the dowel thats in it. thanks in advance

Update
I AM A RETARD :D . had it on the wrong wire.
