does anybody know where i can find a short block w/out all the internals. Im in the process of of some machine work and i planned for my block to be bored .20 over but, when the took the measurements it seems the owner before me already had it bored .40 over and i already have the .20 over pistons, this sucks! I researched on getting some sleeves but nobody carries them in stock and the only company that can custom make them said it will take 8-10 weeks before there done. Well, i cant wait that long after already waiting almost 2 months and being carless. So ive decided im going to buy a chaep stock short block with no internals (because i already have them) and just do the work to that one to maybe save some money and time. Can anyone tell me where i can find such a plain block i can pay to have overnighted if need be (yes im that desperate). If you have any questions on my mods or progress check out www.rollincarcustoms.com and go to Cars>customer cars>David Scruggs 97 gst> more info and there you go.

Please somebody write back!

Just a quick post to clarify a few things that David posted about his situation. What he's needing is simply the block itself, not the short block.

The block that was in his car turned out to be bored .40 over before we ever began working on his car, and by boring it larger to fit sleeves (and waiting 8-10 wks for Darton to make them) is unacceptable for both David and RCC. The short term goal for this project was to prep the car for at least a GT30R or larger, and thinning the cylinder walls even more than they already are for sleeves isn't the best option. A block with a .20 over bore size is a much safer bet when running the boost levels and horsepower were looking for.

David, and his project GST, have already taken a number of turns since the project began. This project has gone from doing just a swap, into a full motor build-up with forged internals, ported/polished/bowled head, 1mm OS valves, and more. And in doing so, the eta for this project has continuously changed drastically each time. So, with the time invested so far in waiting for more and more parts, the machine work, and finances to be in order, it seems the quicker and safer solution is to bore a stock block and finish the project within days, rather than waiting out the 8-10 wks and running a block with thin walls and a lot of boost.

Our best suggestion for David was simply to get a new block with a stock bore and we'll take it from there. Over this short period of time, his project has somewhat turned into our project and we both are quite eager to get his car back on the road, boosting 20lbs. :sneaky: and showing the other drivers in our area what a real car can do. That said, feel free to contact David or us directly if you have any information, questions or comments about what we've done for David's GST or where we can obtain a bare block quickly. We have our feelers out there, but a 97 GST bare block isn't always an easy grab...

I have a 7-bolt 2G block, no pistons, no rods. Comes with crank, water pump, pulleys, yadda yadda.

$150, but shipping might be a killer.

I don't know, if you're interested, let me know.

Later,

thanks for trying to help me out but i found a bare block from mitsubishi graveyard and they want $235 shipped and i figure thats a pretty good deal. I really apreciate the offer but i think im going to give this a try,but ill keep you in mind if someting comes up.

i need the complete short block if anyone has one i blew my engine 4 days ago and need a new short block

Good choice on going with Mitsubishi Graveyard, I also got a bare 6 bolt block from them to have machined .20 over. Block was in very good condition once it was all cleaned up and had no problems in the process . Good luck with your engine

my friend has an extra 6 bolt with nothing in it, prolly wouldnt want more than 50 bucks if that. it is rusted up because he had it hot tanked and then left it outside in the rain. Its stock and hasnt been bored yet (to my knowledge) so you might wanna give that a try. if you want, pm me for contact info.we both live in jax

Key statement...

David had the block shipped here to RCC and once ripping open the cardboard box that was already falling apart from being shipped via FedEx, we found the block to be a simply a ball of rust; "cleaned up" is an understatement for this thing. There's rust and trash in every nook and cranny of this thing, almost like it's been sitting outside in the yard since the engine went out on the Eclipse this thing was in back in the mid 90's... Anyway, all will be well once we get it back from machining and the next update to this thread will hopefully be from David himself stating how pleased he is with his "new" GST... :thumb:
