I want to assemble my short block today, and I want to make sure I'm doing it right. Here are the steps and procedures I am going to take. Can you guys just tell me if I'm missing anything, or give me any tips?

1) Take block outside and hose it down with water, spray everything out thoroughly and wipe everything down with a lint free cloth. Preferably white, so when you are wiping and the rag is still white you know the areas clean.
2) Hose the entire block in brake cleaner and scrub it down from the inside out and make sure all the grit is cleaned away.
3) Dry the block as soon as possible and completely douse it with WD-40? Do you guys know of any thing better to put on it to inhibit rust? This thing will be put together slowly.
4) Put regular motor oil on the bearing surfaces and in the bores.
5) Use a punch and insert the oil jets.
6) How do I install the bearings? This is something I really don't know the procedure too.
7) Put plastigauge on the bearings, put the main girdle on and torque it down to spec. (Do NOT spin the crank)
8) Take the main girdle off and measure the plastigauge (anyone know what spec is?)
9) If it's within spec put assembly lube all over the bearings and reinstall the main girdle (anyone know what to torque it to? I have ARP main studs)
10) Put plastigauge on the rod bearings (or do I put it on the crank?).
11) Torque the piston rods down and then remove them.
12) Measure the plastigauge and make sure it's within spec (again if anyone knows the plastigauge measurement and torque spec that would be great)
13) If it's within spec then put assembly lube all over the bearings and surfaces (any specifics?).
14) How are the piston rings supposed to be arranged when I put them in?
15) Put the pistons in and torque it down (?)
16) Spin it a few times to make sure there is no binding, and if not your good to go.

Can you guys please review this and make sure everything is right and answer the questions?

When you put the bearings in you want nothing behind them. Clean the journal surface in the block with brake cleaner and a lint free cloth before you install the bearings. Your block will need to be line honed if you use arp main studs. The measurement for the plastigage is on the package itself. You compare how flattened the strip is to a scale on the package. I clean blocks with oven cleaner, then purple power a hose and a brush. While blowing it off with air i spray wd40 all over it to prevent rust.

I had the machine shop install the arp main studs and line hone it so thats taken care of. Isn't there some spec for how flat it should be though? Everything else look good?
