What am i supposed to do now??? i was torquing on my flywheel bolts, and 2 of them stripped out and just started to spin... Completely ruined the bolts, and at the same time destroyed the threads on the crank.

Well you could try to retap the crank, i personally wouldnt, i would consider doing it right and pulling the engine and getting another crank. Maybe a tap and rethread will work but with the crank no way im taking a chance on not having a bigger problem later.

Were you installing or removing? You might have to cut the head off and use a easy out, but if they have been loctited in you may have to bite the bullet and either drill/retap or pull the crank and take it to a machine shop and have them fix it. Worst case is you need a new crank and bearings.

i have been told that possibly helicoiling them will work?

i was installed... i didn't round over the head. i stripped out the threads.

^agreed looks like your s.o.l rebuild the bottom end

i hope not... i have a built bottom end with 1500 miles -_-

Helicoil on the crank some may tell you that could work but, its your engine it wll all come down to what you think is best, again things happen it sucks yes.

thats what i figured. I'm gonna have my buddy who's a tech, and spent 5 years recently in automotive schooling do it, since ive never used them before.

You will be fine with a helicoil if they are installed properly.

of course they will be installed properly. they will be done by a trained professional :sneaky:

now... i picked up a fidanza flywheel... and it seemed as if the flywheel was thicker, and the bolts werent going in far enough, and thats part of the reason they stripped out. where can i find some longer bolts? i checked extremepsi, since im going to go with a set of ARPs... but they only have the standard length.

I wouldn't use helicoil on flywheel bolts. Too much stress on those threads. I'd call your local machine shop and ask what they recommend.

Bogus care to chime in?

ive been told that in a lot of cases that helicoils are actually stronger than the original threads?

This is correct, they will hold just fine.

That is good to know... I was really just looking for some other opinions before i went ahead and did it. any answer on the flywheel question?

What do you mean flywheel question, you stripped the bolts on the crank right? If you use helicoils make sure you find the correct bolts i never used them on my crank so finding bolts, i guess you can find them online or hardware stores. I would find out what size you have and do some measurements to get the correct pitch, and length for what your trying to accomplish. In some cases they may be stronger to use than the original threads, everyone has a way of doing things i learned by trial and errror. I put my bottom end together too many times not the money that is a issue just the time involved. Youll get opionons here thats why we have a forum.

I would contact arp and see if they can make you some custom bolts, or contact fidanza and see what they recommend.

Thanks, ill give Fidanza a call in the morning and see what they have to say.

Use the Forced performance kit .It is correct for the Fidanza application and the steel plate prevents galling of the bolt heads on the flywheel.

Have any of you guys heard of Time Serts? any reviews?

Timeserts are good, BUT, you have to drill a bigger hole for them which could weaken the end of the crank.

This is very true... I had no idea how they worked, but someone just recommended them, saying they were much better then Helicoils. It sounds like that may be true, but not any better for this situation.
