CAI assistance needed

idk i thiught it was a good idea, its technicaly my first car and i wanna make it bomb, plus its kinda my first project car, im ok with alittle time and effort.

My dsm is my first car as well so I understand the need to make it badass LOL. I lucked out and got a gst.

If I had ended up with a NT and really wanted to keep it, this is what I would do.
1. Clean up engine bay: new hoses, maybe a cai, and powdercoat the valve cover)
2. Clean up the outside: new paint job if needed, rims, oem body pieces like a gsx high rise)
3. Clean up the inside: for me it would be changing over to an all black interior and a nice sound system. Maybe an LED lighting upgrade too
4. Performance: either I would save up to build engine and go turbo, start suspension upgrades if not done for appearance, or if I'm feeling pretty crazy, go balls to the wall and swap out for an evo 4g63 (after buying a dd of course LOL)

By the way...Cheap and turbo don't normally go together

i dont care about the outside for now, im more focused on the motor and peformance, i kinda just wanna built the body back to its stock ways and make it a ghost edition talon, if possible get it a lip kit

Save your money for a suitable platform. So many people buy v6 Camaros and think they even compare to a ls1 or that a nonturbo car that has a similar car that is turbo can just become turbo. Keep your current car as a daily driver and buy a 2nd project car that is a good platform right from the start.

May as well put together a budget thats based off your goals, willingness to spend, and how much time you have. After thats done, stick to it and remember that you can choose two out of these three: cheap, reliable, fast :thumb:

No, I was agreeing with statements like this, and giving out a good quote.

IF you want a high performance price point car, you have to in turn sink lots of money, and eliminate most of said reliability.

This person made a great point, and made tons of sense, however "You can't save those, who do not wish to be saved." Means there are people out there that will never listen to the experience of others.

If you just like the way DSM look I could see buying an N/T. If you want a DSM that goes fast, they did 90% of the work for you in a GST or GSX platform.

That post mentioned the v6 platform of Camaros (or Mustangs for that matter) These things weren't intended to be fast, but use the same style, at a price point. A lot like the "turbo style" package for 99 DSM w/ turbo wing etc.

To start with a non performance model and try and make it "bomb" which, I guess means fast. Is like trying to serve 200 dinners out of a home oven...It can be done, but there are better ways.

So it's going to be most effective and efficient to enjoy the style in your current DSM and save for a project turbo model. OR Sell this one, and buy said turbo model. OR Expect to do all the bolt-on mods (spending over 1,000) and still being slow.

( I took a friend for a ride, he fell in love, bought a GS. Dumped thousands, ran high 16's at best, low 17's more consistantly. He eventually realized what everyone was saying, and bought a GSX, hes hooked now.)

I think when I said "You can't save those, who do not wish to be saved" stated all of this which would have saved me a lot of time explaining what exactly I was getting at...

Love the Riddler. haha

If you can find a good one I would definitely go with an awd one but they are becoming more and more rare in good unmolested shape. Finance a evo 8-9 and you wont even have to mod it to have a "bomb" car.

i tihnk for now im just gonna make my talon a sutible driving to and from work car and buy a tsi, im debating AWD or FWD tsi.

That's a great idea. Clean the thing until you can eat off any part of the car.
A cat back exhaust could likely be had cheaply, you already want a cai don't go crazy. Once you start tearing things apart it becomes more project than DD.

That'll give you the best bang for your buck N/A. If you come across a perf. header for a steal grab it. If not drive it and enjoy it while you hunt the TSi of your dreams.

so far, i only have a new muffler and taken off the caterlyzer, added my spectre CAI pipes, with spectre air filter, not to much work yet, i replaced the hatch for a eclipse to a 95 talon one. only work ive done to my talon.

you need the cat on n/t cars for back pressure. i did the same thing on the one i had and it was just poop and i had all the bolt-on goodies(header intake bigger throttle-body and tb spacer and better coil-pack plugs and wires etc) and they didnt help so i would put it back on and it would help for emissions as well.

Are you expecting to gain power from this dual filter setup or just doing it for looks? I will tell you right now that you will gain nothing from it. Just throw a cheap ebay intake on there and call it a day.

Keep it on topic here. No one word posts about hippies.
This is everyone's first and final warning, I was this close to getting rid of this thread but a light shined from above and told me not to.

Continue.

I can't really see it in that small pic. But it looks just like a pipe with a filter on the end. That is about as good as it can be.
