Hello, I own a 1997 Eclipse GS, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use Seafoam?

My car currently has 128xxx miles, but I've seen that some people pour it on brake lines, oil, gas tank, intake, what is the difference?

Is it true that it could hydro-lock your engine or that it isn't worth it?

I've used it in the gas tank and the intake via the PCV on several cars.

It seemed to help clean carbon from both but the only thing I can say 100% is that it puts on an impressive smoke show. Yes, if you're not careful when sucking it in via the PCV you can hydrolock the engine but you would have to be pretty aggressive to do so. Go slow if you decide to do it.

I agree with the above.

I have used it in the gas tank to help clean the fuel system and also in the oil, just before an oil change. When I used it in the oil, I drove for about 5 miles or so with the engine warmed up, then changed the oil. It was on my Chevy Pickup to try and quiet noisy lifters and did seem to help in the fact that the ticking doesn't go on as long on a cold start now. Just my experiences. Water, introduced through a vacuum hose will clean your cylinders of carbon deposits also. It will make a "black" smoke cloud of soot on your driveway if you do that so be aware. I have a spot in the drive from years ago when I de-carboned the old 6 cylinder in my then mother-in-laws Ford Fairmont. It purred so good after that treatment but had been "grandma'd" around forever before.

Is there a problem you are trying to solve?

It won't hurt anything in the gas. I had my nephew put 2 cans in his tank in his car that the dealer wanted $300 to clean his injectors. He drove it almost 200 miles to my place and the injectors were no issue by that time. If it were in the oil, you wouldn't leave it in there. You would just run it long enough to clean any varnish (a few hours at most) then drain it and replace with fresh oil and filter.
