Hello, today I decided to seafoam my 1998 eclipse gsx. I started off by running 1/3 can into my bov line. While my dad kept the idle at about 1200-1400, I slowly sipped the seafoam into the line and as I approached the last bit, I dunked the line in to try and stall it out. Once it finished the last drops, I told my dad to cut the engine off, but the engine kept going! It scared the hell out of me as my engine began to grumble and smoke like crazy, as well as start spraying black fluid from the line i was using, so I plugged the line and the engine stopped. While it was soaking, I added 1/3 to my oil and the last 1/3 to my full gas tank. After it sat for about 10 minutes, I took the car for a hard drive. Never drove my car that hard and I was surprised at how fast it was! Anyways, after smoking out the road for about 15 minutes, I changed my oil. After that, I went to drive my car again and it was idling at around 1100 as opposed to the 650-850 it was at before. I figured I just needed to drive more. My check engine light came on shortly after and gave me the p0505 code for idle air control system. I'm not sure what is going on. I made sure the hose was reattached well and checked it for vacuum leak. It was not leaking. After some more driving, my idle increased to the 1400-1500 range. I took it to my friend who is a whiz when it comes to 2g dsms and he pulled out a screw driver and twisted a screw on the throttle body that dropped my idle to about 650. So far, the car idle has stayed under 900. Is what he did only a temporary fix? The CEL light is still on, but I'm wondering what could possibly be going on here. Can anyone make any suggestions? I am planning on removing my IAC valve and cleaning it out some time tomorrow. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Next time, try using the brake booster line instead of the bov line. Also, your suppose to change your spark plugs as well.

As for the iac, remove and check for any signs of why it would not be working properly.

I would check my plugs, I would bet they are fouled now. Clean or replace as needed.

I would have run up a much higher idle - anything over 2000 RPM.

A high idle helps breaks off the carbon buildup from the tops of the pistons better.

On Big block V 8 motors, we used to use simple water to blow off carbon deposits since water suddenly causes steam and this steam did the job well along with running the idle up close to 3000RPM and dribbling the water down into the carbs with black smoke galore out the tailpipes.

Amazing how the oil got nasty looking from all the carbon blown off. But, the results were fantastic with tonnage of power returned using fresh plugs.

Remember, you're adding junk that the motor doesn't like and it has to get rid of it quickly and a high idle helps to rid of the junk going in.

Thanks for the input fellas. I found out my problem today. I was just inspecting my engine and saw a vacuum hose had come off the fuel pressure regulator. What a relief. Although, I won't be getting the 3/4 tank of premium my car sucked down in 2 days. Oh well.
