nippon pistons any good? link inside

JDM DSM 2G PISTONS 14B 16G ECLIPSE TALON 1G TURBO 4G63T - eBay (item 160545008138 end time Feb-18-11 21:39:09 PST)

are these good for a 1g who plans on making power somewhere WAY down the road? Im basically stock as of yet....want to B16g, and DSM link though....lemme know watcha guys think

From more research that I have done. Sounds like a good buy. Anyone second that or disagree?

If you read earlier posts it is stated that these or OEM manufacture pistons. So if thats what your looking for then they are good.

Stock pistons work pretty good, so yes I would say its a good buy. Keep in mind your power goals and how far you want to push the motor. But 1g/2g rods/pistons setup have worked great for people time after time.

You'll have to read my last post again. The picture in that ebay ad is a generic npr piston picture. But the manufacturer of those pistons in that ebay ad is said to be "Nippon Racing". NPR does not have a "Nippon Racing" subsidiary or venture. NPR is OE. There's another person here who posted a picture of their "Nippon Racing" pistons and they DO NOT look like NPR pistons or original 4g63 pistons. The ringlands are close to the crown (weaker), and it's easy to see the casted identification numbers in the dish are different. So someone needs to buy these pistons from this ebay vendor and find out if they are npr or "Nippon Racing" like Mike02rt has.

Hum, that is definitely interesting, and a good point. I would like to see more info about the pistons and the difference between them if anyone has more clear pictures.

Yeah, Nippon Racing is definitely some sort of knockoff compay looking to capitalize from the Nippon name. I recently ran into this same thing when one of my friends with a honda was telling me about Nippon Racing parts he got, and I was like "there is no nippon racing, NPR means Nippon Piston Ring"

I think a lot of the confusion is most don't understand what NPR actually stands for and that they are the quality OE part supplier, they see "Nippon Racing" and relate it to "NPR". Easy mistake to make for somebody whose not keen on brands, not one I'd want to make though.. At least not until somebody proves these "racing" pistons. I plan on running the NOA pistons with NPR ring set in my current build.

So I wonder if some of these guys on ebay are selling knock off NPR pistons with genuine NPR piston rings? Or knock of rings in NPR box?

This got me a bit worried so I went back to look at which pistons I got for my motor. This is the kit I got for my 6bolt build. It says NOA on the box. But also says "100% Subsidiary of Nippon Piston Ring" So I am assuming they are real NPR's.

The ad also states that its Genuine NPR parts. So this seller might be your best bet.

Those piston dishes have very different font for the identification casting than stock. There's no characteristic circle cast in the center of the dish. And the ringlands are closer to the crown than stock. Characteristics just the same as Mike02rt's pistons.

I could be wrong about the font and the distance from the ringland to the crown. . . It's been years since I've seen a 2g piston. Someone post up a picture of original 2g pistons please.

Even the NPR pistons dsmgraveyard sells lack the circle cast in the center of the piston. So I don't think the NPR ones ever had the circle cast in the dish like OEM. Because everything else from what I can see looks the same on the OEM to ones sold on Ebay as NPR. Even Mike02rt pistons. As his ringlandings look like they are in the proper spot for a 2g piston.

From looking at some pictures the ringlanding location seem to be in the same spot for both OEM 2g pistons to the NPR's Mike02rt got on ebay. Matt I wonder if your thinking of the 1g pistons ringlandings being farther away from the crown then the 2g's? As seen below with both 2g and 1g pistons in the pic. Also the font between the 2g and 1g pistons are different. Correct me if I am wrong or if you see a difference in the ones they sell on ebay that I didn't catch. I think the pistons that are sold on ebay as NPR are actual legit NPR's.
