Ottawa,
Well I was looking at possible turbo's for my 2.3L build this winter and this one jumped out at me. Here is the info on it from Dejon Powerhouse.

Model 3431RE Often called the 57trim - Max Rated HP: 550
Although it spools a little later, the power is greater. Great for a mildly built 2 liter engine with cams and aftermarket manifold. On a 2.3 or 2.4 liter engine, it spools faster yet for great street and strip performance. You also get the durability benefits of water cooling and ball bearing center section.
Compressor wheel dia. 56mm - 57trim Spool-Up 3600rpm on 2 liter
T31 Turbine wheel in a .63 A/R housing for good exhaust flow

My goal is to build a 9.0:1 compression ratio, 2.3L that will be running a lightened butchered crank, aluminum pistons, lightweight flywheel, 1mm os valves and dual valve springs.

Will it be realistic to be pushing this engine up to 8500 rpm, reason I ask this is because of the quicker spooling dual BB and the advantages of low end torque, will I have a good powerband with a turbo like this? I think power at 4500+ rpm on a DD is not something that would be very fun. How well would this turbo spool and at what RPM?

I don't want create a 600WHP DD. My goal is a 400whp summer car. Thoughts?

If your goal is 400whp DD then just get the 50trim. I have the same turbo BB and it surged past 22psi. Had to get someone to custom machine me a to4e compressor cover with surge ports for it to make it go away. I told pte about this and all they said was "we have to research on this" and never got back to me again. Since your going stroker why not go with the 60trim or 60-1? Alot better turbo than the 57 in my opinion. As for the 57 spool times I have the BB version on a built 2.0 and i get full boost(20+psi) by 4,000rpms. So you should be spooling it around 34-3,500rpm's

Learn how to read a compressor map and take a look at the maps of all of the turbo's you are considering and the numbers will give you a good idea of what turbo you want to get. You'll probably end up with the 50 trim in the end.
