Here a pic of the 4" SP cover. Im just curious how many of you run Dejon's oiling kit. The feed line that came in it doesn't seem long enough to go from the oil housing to the turbo the way PTE's instructions say to run the feed line.

Thats a pretty turbo....

I assume you picked it up dejon?

I cant wait to get mine, Just need a few things to sell and this will be on my table soon for pics...

To kill part throttle surge, the tornado works the best. A bunch of turbo cars around here are part throttle surge free after I recommended they try it. Those things are actually good for something. :p
Hahaha, a tornado. A serious intake restriction would slow spool tremendously and probably do a lot to reduce part throttle surge. That along with part throttle boost, and overall power and torque.
 
WRONG!!!

A member on a Grand National board did test after test and found this.

Part throttle surge was gone.

Spool was slower by 125rpm to get into boost, then a 200rpm increase in spool up to 7psi on.

The car was not showing any difference in A/F or EGT at WOT.

Maybe YOUR theory is wrong Caithness or did your testing come up with different results which is why you were so confident in your statement?

Got the 6152E with the S cover and this thing has some major nuts, upgrade your brakes if you have supporting mods.

It's not as bad as ppl make it out to be. Then again I put mine on with a aftermarket manifold the stock mani might place it close to the water pipe.

I think if you think you beed bigger brakes you need to upgrade YOUR nuts LOL j/kROFL

So it did slow down spool. If it slowed down spool 200 rpm at full throttle, it probably slowed it down quite a bit more at part throttle. No part throttle boost, no part throttle surge. Great fix. AFR and EGT weren't different- I take it you're using those to prove he didn't lose power. A few percent change in airflow wouldn't necessarily change those numbers depending on his tuning system. That doesn't mean he wasn't down 15, 20hp. I'm not convinced that putting a restriction in the intake is a good way to fix surge, nor am I convinced that the tornado is fixing the surge by some other means, "As seen on TV Patented Jet Vortex Swirl Action" notwithstanding. Not with the evidence you've given us, at least.
 
Guys, I just orded a turbo from Dejon 2 days ago. Originally, I was set on getting a 6152, but I had a last hour change.

I decided to go with the GT3651. I believe it has the same compressor wheel as the 6152 but has a GT35 turbine wheel. Has about the same power output of the 6152 but spools a few R's quicker and is more efficient and reliable than the 6152.

I ordered it with the SP compressor cover but I got it with a T3 .63 A/R turbine housing. Dave informed me that it has a 4 bolt outlet rather than the Ford 5 bolt style outlet, which is also a small amount more efficent.

My turbo should be in Monday or Tuesday, I'll be sure to snap a few pics and let you know all about it.
 
It should look something like this. I have the bolt-on housing and an internal gate. By the time I get around to installing this thing I probably won't be using the internal gate or the bolt-on housing. I got it from Dejon as well, the internal gate was free so I figured I'd better get it incase I did install it before I got a new manifold/wastegate combo. Should work well with the engine I'm going to build this spring.

Dan, what manifold to you intend to use? Most people need to use a 1/2" mani to head spacer for the turbine housing to clear. Because of how it's designed, it's puts more of the housing towards the block.

When I was trying to run a EVO III manifold, and a Hahn adapter plate with a 4-bolt T3 housing, I was probably a good 3/4" from the head surface. I ended up selling the housing, and got the 5-bolt one on my next turbo.

I've been talking with the guys over at punishment this past week, and I'm going to be trying out a prototype ram horn style T3 tubular manifold from them. We'll probly get started on it later in the month or next month. We've been discussing what types of steel to use on it and talking about jet hot coating it also. I may actually just send them the turbo so he can build the manifold around it so its positioned perfectly.

Interestingly enough, aside of the fact that I have a woodie, the covers don't look all that different in terms of overall circumference but the inlet could suck in a large rat without a problem. It's a sweet looking piece and when you have everything together I'll refuse to line up against you.

Now I have turbo envy...

I actually just bought a turbonetics cast manifold and a t3 .63 a/r sc6152 with a 4 bolt outlet. I was wondering if you had to beat the water pipe a lot to make it fit? I only ask because you are just about to install it and I want to know what I am in for. I also heard that the 1g's have a problem with bigger turbo compressor outlets being to close to the front motor mount. Was it in your case?

From my research you have to run a spacer between the turbonetics manifold and the head in order for it to clear the 4 bolt turbo outlet, but its not needed when you use the 5 bolt ford style outlet.

I havn't installed it yet. I was going to run a turbonetics manifold but not anymore. I'm sending the turbo out the the guys at punishment and he's building me a custom T3 ram horn style tubular header and 02 housing.

LOL it's not a gt35r I wish it's a gt14 from SBR but it's up there its' still a 65 lb/min turbo. We'll see how that internal holds up i'm aiming for 25psi dialy so it shouldn't make a diffrence low boost and this car iwll never be used together :rocks:

That sucks man. I did not know that. I thought the turbonetics manifold dropped the turbo down more so that you could clear the pipe. Now do you think with a bit of tapping on the water pipe I could get it to fit, or is it just not possible? Anybody with insight on this please chime in.

Denting the water pipe with help fit the compressor cover, but you need the spacer to help clear the 4 bolt turbo outlet.

So wait, the turbine housing will actually hit the block or head with a 4 bolt housing? I need to find out soon enough to change the build on the turbo. Also, how much is a spacer and longer studs for the manifold plus spacer?

I am not trying to say that you are wrong by any means man. But I cannot really see why it would not fit. Here is a post of a guy with the 5 bolt housing and a spacer.

Without the spacer I could see were the compressor housing would land about, so I could tell it might not need any crushing of the pipe...but it might a little bit. So this leads me to believe that the 4 bolt housing will take some more crushing to fit, but as long as the compressor cover clears, the exhaust housing should as well. The exhaust housing is smaller in diameter and the block stays straight around the turbo area... Is there something I might be missing?

If I cannot get this to bolt up, I will probably go with the 5 bolt housing. Is there that much of a difference in power between that and the 4 bolt?
 
I'm just going off what I read on the link boards. A guy said he had a turbonetics manifold and to clear the exhaust housing. This is an exact quote from him "I have this manifold on my car. You have to run a spacer to run a 4bolt exhaust housing which isn't to bad but even with a spacer I can still fit both stock fans in my 2g" I've also come across people saying this on tuners.
 
The only problem I could see is if the turbo was a little closer to the engine, that would mean I would have to crush the water pipe a little more. If I have to crush it too much, I will just cut a section of the water pipe and replace it with a radiator hose that dips down more in that section. That way I can clear the turbo and not crush the living hell out of the pipe. The turbo has already been shipped out with the 4 bolt housing, so all I can do now is hope that it either fits or needs little crushing to fit. I just cannot imagine it being that different of a placement then the 5 bolt housing. Is there somebody else running a 4 bolt housing that could tell me there thoughts on this?
