Resolved Safe to install a new turbo on a 1g talon with 100,000miles with the auto transmission

Hey everyone,

Have a blown turbo on my 91 tsi AWD talon. Was discussing getting a new turbo to put on it instead of trying to rebuild the current blown one. Would this be an issue for the transmission that has just around 100,000 miles on it?

Assuming the car is otherwise in good shape replacing the turbo or rebuilding it shouldn't be a problem. If you upgrade the turbo to a larger one is when you'll need to make additional changes to avoid problems. 1G Automatics have special needs since they got smaller turbos, injectors and ECUs designed for them.

I’ve personally put a 68HTA on the auto car at 180k currently or probably 170k at the time without any issues . Daily drove it too. I wasn’t racing or going crazy but I’m not afraid to WOT everything I own.
