my DownPipe arrived today, its a 2.75 inch mandrel bent, with the cat delete option, since the rest of my new exhaust wont arrive until 3 weeks from now i was thinking on installing the new DP and removing the rest of the stock exhaust for going to the local strip this week; are there be any problems with this? the only mods I have currently on my car is a MBC, boost gauge, 3 inch intake pipe, K&N filter with no canister and thats about it.

is it worth doing this? are there any drawbacks?
what boost setting should i use if i decide to run an open downpipe?

there's a local dude with a gst spyder that ran with just a 3" dp for a few weeks. the only downside is that you'll attract a lot of attention (some that i'm sure you don't want ;))
truthfully, the best exhaust for a turbo car is just a dp, you just need to get the gas out of the engine bay with as little resistance as possible

all i have is an ACT 2600, and a boost gauge on my 90 GSX, and im running open DP, stock DP actually, and i havent had a problem, plus i like the sound :thumb: :dsm:

only prob i see is where's the O2 sensor goin to go since its after the cat?

the o2 sensor is mounted in the o2 sensor area, unless you're referring to something else...

Turbos don't like backpressure. No exhaust is the best exhaust for a turbo car. Just keep in mind your car is going to be extremely loud. On the bright side, your turbo should spool faster and at lower RPMs. This may be bad if you have a GST without any suspension upgrades, but otherwise go for it.

I ran open DP for about 1 week on my talon before I died and it rattled the shit out of my interior. It was a 3inch atmos dump dp tho so that may be why it was so loud. My t28 spooled fast as hell tho and didn't have a problem.

Run it.
See if you like it.
If you do leave it and prepare for attention.
If you don't put your catback back on.

edit: your car died right? hopefully not you LOL

im also thinking about running just an open downpipe, hopefully its not too loud

where did you get ur DP w/ no cat, how much did u pay

i bought it off ebay; its SS with a 2.5 inch downpipe up to the flex section; after that its a 2.75 inch pipe, i paid 130+ shipping (165 total)
the guy who sold it has the ebay user mane: bmw325racing
do a search in ebay ; he is always selling stuff
it looks great, and its mandrel bent, plus it feels very light, very good product for the price IMO

btw, i`ll be installing the DP tomorrow and let you guys know what i think about it

I ran OPEN dp and it blew ass.

I have a 92 tsi awd with intake 3inch mandrel SS exhaust NO cat. and its turbo back,
I hit a ditch and bent the junk out of my rear section "RNR uses slip joints" so i pulled it off, and I had 3 inch running from the TURBO back to the rear differential, and it just dumped there.

IT was horrible loud. and the car felt slower, significantly slower. but MYGOD you could hear the turbo spinning, mmmmmm

but n e ways, put the exhaust back on. and it was faster.

mabye im just wierd.

also, after having it off for an hour, i got pulled over by 3 cops within 2 hours of eachother asking about my excessive exhuaust tone.

ill try to attache the video as a zip file.

ha, i know what you mean...the day before i put my exhaust on i ripped the stock shit off and just ran the DP....as i drove to my friends house to start our project i was sitting real low in my seat from embarassment...loud and sounded like a grand am with a huge hole in the muffler...about the way your video did LOL

u said it ran slower??!! i ran open o2 housing for a while and it ####in ripped. i pulled a modded sti a half car and im pretty much stock. i am FWD tho...

could i just take off my catback and then run around and see how i like it, then if i don't like it put the cat back on, but if i like it, leave it as it is...so it LOOKS like i have a muffler on

boost creep is when the wastegate can't get all of the exhaust gas out. so, you wouldn't have worse boost creep; this might even solve it, depending on how restrictive your exhaust is

Boost creep is when the exhaust flows easier through the turbine than through the wastegate hole. No exhaust or larger exhaust will usually make boost creep worse. How many times have you heard of people having boost creep issues with a 3" exhaust? Ive seen and heard of it a lot of times. So yes, if you have boost creep now with exhaust, it will more than likely be worse with open exhaust. And pay more attention, this is a 1g not a 2g so there is no rear o2 sensor.

yea im running a 2g with stock t25 turbo :( so im guessing i would creep... this is the only thing stopping me from running the QTEC electronic cutouts.
