hey everyone, just wondering if my RS49-t turbo will be big enough to make good HP gains with a 2.3L built 6 bolt with 2g head?

Play with your cam timing a bit before you begin fuel and timing tuning. There's alot to be gained with 272s/comp200s/fp2s over a 2.4 block with re-adjusted overlap. Otherwise, you're off to a nasty street machine.

The SD is a good head. You'll be very proud of the power your gonna make with this combo. Throw in some race gas and max out that turbo!

ya we will see what happens, glad to hear i dont have to upgrade my turbo right now:thumb:

Don't waste your money on a 49T. It will crap out on you in less than a month probably. Go with a PTE or even better FP Green if thats the size turbo you are looking for. The best bang for the buck turbo on a 2.3L is the GT30.

In terms of what? Spool? Max power? What about the HX35 or S256? Slowboy even has a 50-trim for like $650.

Turbo selection depends on so many different variables, with a big one being driver preference. A driver with his car revving to 10,000 rpm and a GT42R may not agree with a driver with 2.4L and GT30R on what the best turbo is. Obviously, one is a drag-weighted car, so his impression of the best turbo will not be street-oriented.

From what I've seen in track times a GT30 on a 2.3l will hands down outperform a HX in just about all areas (spool, power, etc). Show me one fast guy on a HX and I'll show you 10 on a GT30. I'm not saying the Hx is bad, I'm just saying it seems to be that more people on the average do better w/ the GT.

If he's thinking 50 trim, then a GT30 is even a much better option (better reliability, better spool, better power). Its just better.

the thing is guys, i already have the RS49-t on my car now.. for about 2 years and its holding up fine..

i am in the process of building the 2.3 and running low on money so thats why i asked the question of, "will the RS49-t be enough to make good power on the new motor swap."

And I'll show you 30 evo3 guys. A certain hp number, power curve, and good driving yield a good track time. A turbo influences the power band and hp number. Nothing else. The HX35 has the same or better hp number and better power band.

Besides, very few run any holset. Much less a specific one. . . That is no proof that a gt30 is better. I have a Holset printed compressor map of the hx35. It flows about the same or a little better than a gt30r. It still runs WAY more efficient at 30+ psi. 2.0 dsms are getting their hx35s to spool to over 25psi at under 3600rpms. Which is a faster spool time than the gt30r. These turbos have dynoed at close to 500whp. Just because one doesn't use this particular turbo to deliver the air needed to go down a race track means nothing.

Reliability? That is what makes Holsets so special. 30+ psi daily diesels where the exhaust heat will coke everything; and in terrible, dusty environments for 500K miles and more. And guess what, if it ever does see too low/high oil pressure, its rebuildable! It's not a total loss.

People do not do better. On the average which is turbo to turbo, they do the same. And that is with an hx35 in a bolt-on housing. I'll show you 10 hx35 sr20 or poor flowing turboford guys to every 1 gt30r user with matching times/power. DSMers bight their nose off dispite their face. As beautiful as the gt30r is and performs, it is NOT the best bang for the buck. Far cheaper has done just as good.

............................................

DSMinn0vati0ns, I know the turbo is on the car. The rsXXt turbos all seem to diplay a short life when pushed (personal experience included). So I mentioned an alternative for you to think about now.
