Well i've been looking into HX35s and decided im going to pick one up. Now the decision i have is whether its worth it to run the twin scroll set with it or not. The reason I wonder is cause the HX35 seems to spool very fast already, and I don't want to drop $1000+ on a divided manifold if its not worth it. I have no issue with spending the money on a good reputable mani if the gains are worthwile, but if not I'll put that money elsewhere. Just for the record I have Kelford 272 cams and a JMF SMIM as well. Originally Twin Scroll was the plan, but i figured id ask around here first since i haven't seen to much spool time with these and a 2.3. I also figured it would make full boost fast even with out a T/S Set up, so im kind of up in the air. Also keep in mind im really looking to push this thing hard, so i'd just like your thoughts, Thanks.

If you want to get the most out of it then it's definitely worth it

Hey a local to me LOL. If you ever want to compare setups just drive over the bridge. I am doing almost the same build but on a 2.0. IMO if i had a 2.3 i would put an hx40 on there with TS and have a very fast street car plus E85 = Win.

Yup, Im the one who bought those stock cams from you over the summer at the kwik trip LOL. I've been looking at the HX40 as well, I havent actually paid for the 35, its sitting at my buddies, so ill be looking into both.

I'll second with an HX40 as well. You'll get more out of the 40 being stroked and twinscroll if you choose that setup. It'll work very nicely for you and you should try to find a 6 or 7 blade "Super 40".

I have a 2.3 with a bolt on HX-35, FP-4R cams, and an extrude honed stock intake manifold. The rest of the set-up is in my profile.

I would say twin scroll is worth it just to get away form the restrictive .55 AR bolt on housing. You can see at the top of the RPM range my turbo is being choked out and is not able to flow as much as it should. I think the bolt on housing is causing this. These dyno graphs are using e85 and the dashed line is the exact same setup but using a PTE-5031 which didn't hit as hard but held out more on the top end.

I'm happy with my car for now but I think in the future I may get a larger AR divided turbine housing and do a nice twin scroll setup.

Ya I def. would like it to be solid up top and not tap out to much cause of the mitsu housing. I thought about the HX40 before, but i don't know if i would ever really use it's to full potential. Im not looking to have a huge HP car, so thats kind of why i strayed away from it.

There is also the .70 A/R T3 housing as well. The bolt on housing is working fine on my setup and I have hit 50 lbs/min so far.

Exactly what I had in mind...

+1... They are harder to find, but totally worth the extra few lbs/min you get.

It is said that with the (6 or 7 blade) HX40 and .70 ar T3 housing can flow 69lbs/min...

I picked up a brand new 7 blade HX40 for $600 and the T3 housing will allow more flow but it sacrifices some spool compared to the bolt-on housing.

Your last two statements contradict each other. But I would say go with the hx40 in stock housing and use a TS manifold. I believe I pushed the hx35 as far as it would go on a 2.0l. It never dropped off one bit in the upper rpm range in the 12cm housing. I saw full boost(37psi) by probably 6k with a crap open manifold. TS manifold is key. I believe the hx40 turbos come with a 17cm hotside at least the most common one. That would be perfact with a stroker set-up, and wouldn't drop off in the upper rpms.

I can get the HX35 for under 100 dollars so thats what I'm probably going to go with. its the 7 blade version so i'm happy with that. I've decided to go twin scroll, the other question is how loud is it going to be with 2 dumped wastegates. I really don't care, I was just wondering.
