HX35- what does it take to make it work?

I just bought an HX35 with a bullseye housing. I'm doing an external 40mm HKS gate mounted on the manifold. What sort of fitment issues should I expect? Will it fit with my stock fans? I am assuming the outlet will be pointed downward. Do I need to just make some custom connections to attach it to my current IC pipes? What size is the intake so I can get a coupler for it. Also, I will end up blocking my coolant lines right? How can I do that? Just using plugs? What about the oil lines? Will the stock feed/return work on a bullseye housing? Do I need a steel braided feed? Any advice from anybody with an hx35 is appreciated.

Oh jesus here we go.

You will have all kinds of fitment issues, I had to get a 1/2" flange from Road Race gasket each side so the compressor would not touch the block. Bought a oil drain plug to plug the coolant connection on the block, ran the other 3 together with a tee. The outlet is a 2 1/4" V-band, I had to use a 2 1/2 - 2 1/2" 90 elbow to connect as a 2 1/4" won't fit over the v-band flange. I had to use slimfans mounted on the other side of the radiator. 4" inlet. I got some Aeroquip fittings to feed a -4an oil line from the filter housing, and get some SS -10an and connectors and fittings to run my drain.

Its not an easy turbo to fit, and get going...but once you do its very very nice. Remember this is also on a 2g so your results may vary, but not by much

Here is a pic of mine

OK

In My 1G I had to dent the water pipe a ton to get it to fit, I did use the stock fans, but I had to hack one of the supports off to clear. You will need a new oil feed line and a drain line for a Garret style turbo will work. I then used a 2.5" silicone elbow and connected it to my intercooler piping.

I good way to block the water lines it to remove the fitings from both the water pipe and the t-stat housing. Then tap them with a pipe thread tap. I used 1/8 npt on the t-stat housing and I think I used 3/8 npt on the water pipe. Wen you get them taped you can use plugs from home despot, lowes, or any other place that sells plumbing stuff. The point of this is that if you get a water cooled turbo you can still run water lines with the correct fittings.

I can probably deal with clearancing and hooking up the IC pipes pretty easily. So I need Garret oil drain and feed lines? What exactly is the flange on the bullseye housing designed to fit? Also, what thread are the water lines that need to be plugged?

It seems that from what I have read, it goes in 'fairly' trouble free in a first gen. A few dings here, and some cuts there, and it drops right in.

I can't wait I am so excited.

I don't think Garrett fittings are the same, maybe just the drain, but I would order the Holset specific ones from ExtremePSI and not have any worries, mine are on and fit perfect.

This turbo has the bullseye performance exhaust housing... I should probably ask them.

Also, the turbo says HX35W. What does the W stand for?

Okay I did some more research and now I have some more questions. First of all, IPT, do you have any engine bay pics?

As far as the oil lines go, theturbotrader.com sells them for 150 bucks. I'm thinking I might just fork over the dough and have them done without any work. Although, it seems easy enough to just make my own, only problem is I don't know what size the threads for the oil inlet and outlet are on the hx-35.

I am also wondering if I should get oil from the head or the oil filter housing. I'm thinking the head because the pressure would be too high from the oil filter housing. I think the range for the hx-35 is something like 25 psi to 75 psi. That would probably come from the head, but do I need an inline restrictor anyway?

How do I block off my water lines? Connect them? Plug them?

As for the water pipe, I'm going to hack it and connect it with hi-temp coolant hose that can weasel its way around the compressor housing.

That was such a long time ago that I can't seem to find any pics. They must have been on my old computer. (this was over three years ago.)
