rpms drop alot when engaging clutch

is it normal for the rpms to drop really quick when holding down the clutch because i've read somewhere that it's not supposed to do that. if its not supposed to do that, what could be causing it?

First of all, your thread title and your post are conflicting.

Your rpm's will dip when you engage your clutch because you are applying a load to the engine.

engage = letting clutch out
disengage = pushing clutch in

From what you're saying, I would say yes its also normal for your rpm's to drop fast when you put your clutch in. why? because 99% of the time, when your clutch is in, your foot is off the throttle..giving your engine no reason to be revving - therefore dropping your rpm's to idle and fast.

Maybe I've completely misinterpretted your post though.

Yo, deadly... from what I can understand, 'cuz yes, your post is a little confusing... it's completely normal for your RPMS to drop when you engage the clutch. Perhaps you should look into a good aftermarket clutch so you can shift quicker. Two other suggestions: a lightened flywheel will help those revolutions jump right back up there, and if it's an important race, you can learn how to shift while leaving the gas down. Heh, although I don't recommend the last suggestion unless you are prepared to pay dearly for new transmissions. I'm on my third.
